MEXI - as in Mexi strip? Dredging the depths of an unreliable memory comes up with Bergen Hohne ranges late 1980's. The Royal Engineers had this metal matting stuff that they nailed to the ground and the Harrier mates bounced up and down on it. Matting Experimental or some such wording. I remember a Dutch APC and Leopard MBT having a race on it and tearing it to shreds. The RE's then made it tread water and called it a MEXI-flote.

We used to use MEXI - floats in FI and Norway, large flat pontoons that were powered by outboard style motors. They could be connected together to form huge rafts, anyone remember the Navy Point to Stanley taxi service?

I remember off loading snowcats from LSL's onto these things in Norway, somewhere well to the north of Bardufos. They had no sides and for all intents and purposes, were a floating bridge. God knows MEXI stands for
