Hi guys, have a couple of questions regarding the DEC. I was trying to find out what is the whole assessment process, but I am not sure if you have to go through an ATPL test during the advanced compass test. Is it only for FOs or for everybody? Sorry, it might be a stupid question, but I have the doubt. And second (i believe many times ansered here, but I am looking for the most updated info) - is LPJ ok for preparing or there's something else required to make it better (SkyTest for example).

Really appreciate any feedback! Thanks!

Hi all, what do you expect from Hirevue interview round? Just submitted my application, any head-ups are much appreciated 🙏

gehenna 16th November 2025 04:19

cpt rock

You have to do the same as an F/O, no exceptions.

thanks for your reply, I was expecting it to be this way. Do you know if the LPJ questions are adequate to the real test?

Hello guys, I have heard that direct entry captains in Emirates have a huge failing ratio during the initial training... This is kind of discouraging, especially if you are resigning from your present job. Heard about 70% of them don't pass the initial release training are are subsequently fired....

I am doing that tomorrow

From what was shared during a roadshow by one of the presenters, the Hirevue assessment is purely checking your English language skill.

A fair amount end up (70% is crazy and not true) on the right seat - not sure anyone was "fired" doesn't make sense. That's the reality. Unless coming from a similar operator I usually discourage people. There's too much risk involved. Come as accelerated command, learn the culture, the airline and how to play the game, then go for the upgrade in 1 year.

I came from as a 737 Captain from a legacy European airline. Was a DEC on 777. Never had a problem, however 10 years was enough: For me it was the late night turn arounds and the ULRs that caused me to decided.. enough. But, I never found a problem during the training going from the 737NG to the 777.

I was similar to SOPS; I came from an A320 Training Captain position in a UK charter company to DEC on the A330/A340, and had no problems; to the contrary, all trainers I came across were helpful and encouraging. I too stayed for just over 10 years and had no regrets of my time in EK.

Things are slowing down quite a lot at the moment as it seems. Especially Boeing applicants who've had their assessment completed at least since last month are being put on a management review hold for 6 months. That means that the application will not progress further for at least 6 months so right now you won't know for quite a long time if you were successful or not, let alone receive a start date.

I anybody's got more insight about the current situation please share.

Man_flex 24th November 2025 14:22

I did hear of rumours that the SIM phase of assesment may be conducted in London and Amsterdam, instead of in DXB. Does anyone konw if this is true?

uniform_alpha 25th November 2025 12:21

This is true only for Airbus applicants.

Hello guys, anyone just went through the interview with EK lately? Got a date for online interview in Dec, I'm using LPJ as source of prep but any heads-up are much appreciated. I only have exp on a320family but got offer 380 or 777. Anyone know if they open for negotiation because I want to get on the a350.

gehenna 26th November 2025 01:43

tobythemighty

No they will not negotiate. You may be told one type before arrival, to find on the day you start that that has changed.

Not a hope of negotiating - it will do you no favour to try except to aggravate them.

SOPS 26th November 2025 02:47

And to be clear Tony, you don’t have an “ offer” on anything.

tobythemighty 26th November 2025 09:32

Thank you Gahenna, I was expecting it that way. Just want to understand everything clearly. Cheers 👍

it's just a step to check your english. In my case, all 3 questions are tell me a time..., not related to technical or aircraft
