Apparently, I have been told, I heard, somebody told me... I would be really nice with some facts about Emirates, not rumours.
I am one of those who are well qualified for a DEC position, but I am holding back because of what is posted here. There is a post about how bad things are getting, and five minutes later Harry pops in to tell us most, if not all of it is not correct. You are flying about 1100 hours a year, if the numbers posted here are correct?? |

Has anyone been unsuccessful at PSP2 and been told you are not eligible to re-apply in the future? Just recieved the mail this morning along with several other collegues I was with. Was hoping having got to the medical stage it was looking positive. |

Xiamen, with factoring it is easy to fly 1100 hours a year.

Xiamen. To explain what factoring is, if not explained before. When one is the augmenting (relief crew, heavy crew, etc) on a ULR, time in the rest facility does not count as flight time. On every ULR flight, one will find themselves either the operating crew or the augmenting crew on one of the sectors.
Therefore, every ULR you do, you will lose approx 6-7 hours of credit towards your monthly/yearly maximums. So imagine you do just one ULR every month for a year and you will lose 72-84 hours of flight time credit to your maximums. But you will get the little flight time pay for it all. That's a month of flying that the company is getting out of you. Another fact, you are eligible for 42 days of leave a year, and that's what they will try to sell you on. I haven't seen my 42 days of leave in three years. The requirement, by local law, is all employees must receive 30 days of leave per annum. They can force you to use up your remaining twelve days of leave by giving you three groups of FOUR days. How will that work out for you? Just a couple of facts that Harry should not be able to dispute. |
A good fact for you Xiamen - a good friend of mine was denied emergency leave to go back for his mother's funeral. Of course he went anyway, and on returning was subject to 1 month of various interviews and psych tests and then demoted. EK is not what it seems.

Do you know if your references were contacted? To my knowledge my references haven't been contacted. You think definitely medical related? Would it be different to a CAA initial medical? Just seems strange that 5 could get a no having all progressed through the medical stage. Thanks for any info you can come up with. |
I was just wondering if you can tell me exactly when you interviewed? I have been waiting six weeks since I did the interview and have not heard anything yet so just wondering if I am in the same situation as you. Thanks.

What was the experience like in the 5 people who got a no?
Jet time? Turboprop time? Total hours? What country? Indeed it would appear weird that 5 people would all fail a medical if already operating as flight crew elsewhere. |
That does sound very weird if 5 of you received the no after doing medical.

So when the guys say they are flying 90-100 hrs in a month, they are in fact flying 70-80 hrs and the rest is spent in the bunk reading or sleeping? Regarding leave, are you getting 30 days, or 30 plus 12 days in 4 day blocks? |
Not necessarily. Been flying 95 hours a month with NO bunk time for the last 4 months.

Or you're flying 110-120 hours that becomes 90-95 when factored...

This basically sums up what you are signing up for. Fatigue/health, lack of leave and diminishing family time at home, now they kick you while you're down. |
But you can't fly 90+ hrs every month and 100+ in December? That is more than 1100 hrs! EK would be grounded in December as all of you would run out of hrs!
How many hrs do you fly (unfactored) in a year, and what are the maximum allowed? |
Xiamen--its is simple, you will fly 900 hours per year (or close to it) --UNFACTORED. More than that if you include the bunk time on any ULR's. You will get 30 days leave. All this means you will average close to 90 hours a month in the seat (some higher , some lower). Your 5 sim sessions, 3 ground school days and any other duties will not be counted in any way.
