Condolences for EK SFO
It was reported in the papers about the very tragic accident and demise of an Emirates Boeing First Officer yesterday. The cause of death was a road accident when the SFO's stationary car on the hard shoulder was run into by a neighbouring contrys 4x4. There were 2 deaths in the stationary car and a reported 3 deaths in the car that impacted them.
My sincere condolences to his family both here and in his homeland. Please let this be the last, and never ever stay in your vehicle if stopped on the side of the road! |
Have never met the gentleman, but apparently he leaves behind a wife and two kids. A sad, sad day for the pilot group, the company and expats in Dubai as a whole.
How much unneccesary death must occur on these roads before the government does something about it? To heck with wasta and nationality, people should be punished for their actions as happens in any evolved society. Time for evolution people. My condolences to the family. CO |
Tragic, condolences to his wife and two young children, and to his colleague who was attending the Emirates interview process and perished as well.
|
A truly horrible situation. I wonder if there's anything that we as a pilot group can do to help the family? If so, I'm all for it.
Reminds me of how much I worry about my family on the roads here when I'm away... |
Deepest condolences...... what a tragic and unneccessary loss!
|
Very Sad fellas...
TR:( |
Condolences to the wife and family for this tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them during this very sad time. It makes one think that it could have been any one of us.
Can't we as a pilot group set up a small fund for his wife and kids as a goodwill gesture - maybe something at the CBC where we can drop money off and present it to his wife and family on behalf of all of us. Maybe EPC could be involved? Any thoughts? N.B Bank Account set up in wife's name After many queries to the company from colleagues wanting to make donations, a bank account has been set up in the wife's name. The details of the bank account are available on the crew portal. :yuk: |
I am shocked and saddened by this tragedy. He was a very nice man and will be missed.
May their souls rest in peace. Typhoonpilot |
May the departed souls rest in peace. Since he is not there amongst us any more, could somebody please post his name?
|
Condolences and prayers to the family and friends of the gentleman. :(
Good idea Crinklstein about the box at CBC. I think it's easier than an account as people are bound to pass by it and contribute. With two kids on her hand and a move I'm sure she will need all the assistance she can get. |
This is my biggest fear everytime my family is on the roads. For those of you not here you have no idea what i mean. Yes it must stop , will it stop NO. Shame on all the reckless drivers on the Dubai roads. It highlights the ' when the next good job offer comes' I'm out of here. Living in fear is not fun.
My heart goes out for his wife and kids Have a look at your kids, can you picture them gone! |
Guys
check your company e mail....a note was out this morning from the flight ops with a few details. Crinklstien....great idea!!!! very very very bad......... totally lost for words TR |

Nation Police and The Courts Three killed in Dubai-Al Ain Road accident By Bassam Za'za', Staff Reporter Published: October 07, 2007, 16:18 Dubai, Three people, believed to be two Colombians and Omani, have been burned to death in what was described as ‘the most horrific collision on Dubai-Al Ain road’ on Sunday afternoon, Gulf News has learnt. The driver, believed to be Omani, was speeding when he lost control of his steering and hit a car which was parked on the road shoulder ahead of the sixth interchange on Dubai-Al Ain road. “The strong impact tossed the vehicles for 98.1m before they were completely gutted by fire thus burning the three victims completely and keeping nothing visible of their bodies. The suspected Omani seems to have been fatigued, sleepy or was busy with something inside his vehicle when he lost control and rammed the other car. "Investigations are ongoing by fire, traffic and biological experts to identify the victims and the causes,” Salah Bu Farrousha Al Falasi, Head of Traffic Public Prosecution, told Gulf News two hours following the accident. |
I feel very sorry for the family's of both these gentlemen, and worry about my own.
The unfortunate fact is that very little is being done by the authorities here to fix the situation. These two individuals would still be with us except for the disregard of some other driver to apply some common sense. And just to add..that is not the only accident out that way on Sunday, another one on Al Ain Road just north of Emirates Road later that night. At least two vehicles, one was on it's back, the other severally damaged. Passed by the scene about 11:30 P.M. Don't know if it was fatal. The CBC support "box/fund" is a great idea. Jinglie'd |
Tragic waste. Certainly does make us all very sad, but F***ING ANGRY as well. Not only have we lost one of our brother's, but also an innocent fellow colleague over here doing interviews. What a bloody disgrace this sh**hole has become.
|
when you see parents with their kid on their lap whilst balancing a mobile on the other hand and flying through the traffic, and cutting across two or three lanes to take an exit, not once but everyday, you have got to wonder. innocent people will and do get hurt or worse. they should impose harsher penalties otherwise they'll never learn.
|
We all agree that the traffic is terrible here, but this is not a thread on driving in Dubai, have some respect please. Comment about the drviving but at least show some thought for what has happened when you post! Thankyou.
|
Very sad. My condoleances to the families. Indeed never remain in your car at the side of he highway. But lets face it DXB has the most insane traffic in the world. I could kill some of the lunatics driving (if you call this driving) and bringing me or my family in danger. Welcome to the country where there is ZERO respect for life and human being.
I made a mistake by coming here. Not so much for EK, I find the company treats its staff really good, but for everything els. 5star |
I am deeply saddened to have learned that the article in the paper regarding the accident turned out to be one of our own. My wife and I sat yesterday talking about it and how this sort of thing seems to be getting closer all the time. Our thoughts go out to the family.

Condolences to the bereaved families and friends.
Tragic though the loss is, it’s the celebration of the time we had with these fine people that we should be focusing on. The celebration of their life and all the great things they did. The laughter they brought and their contribution to others lives through their presence. For those left behind, well… all that can be said is that our prayers and thoughts are with you. |
All our sympathy for the family and their close ones.
We have to try to contain our anger, as it only leads to more sorrow. We concur with collegues above that EK is ok, it's the surrounding local culture that gave us a sleepless discussion night. I would like to have my family out of reach of this un-culture. Our deepest condolences GMDS |
My deepest condolences go out to the families of both the EK lads.
Just a thought....how come the newspaper clip in one of the earlier posts makes NO MENTION whatsoever on the tragic loss of the two occupants in the stationary car?? And why,i wonder are the fellas in the 4x4 being referred to as "victims"even though in the previous sentence alone were they critisizing their actions. They were the perps not the victims. This is not a topic of discussion at a time like this, rather an observation! |
Very sorry to hear about this tragic accident, but more shocked to read that two colombian guys were involved in this accident. Any of you guys know the names of this guys? Were they former Avianca pilots? I used to fly with Avianca as well and really would like to know this since most probably, they were friends of mine. RIP :(
|
I am an EK cabin crew and I found out about the tragedy in the Gulf news. The Company should keep informed us about things like this. We are all one team, right. Pilots and cabin crew. My deepest condolences to the family, the wife and the children. Contribution box in CBC is a good idea. We are willing to help out as well. He was one of us!
|
It's very sad. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. Far too many people are dying in this country and elsewhere in the region because of these lunatics.
The Police ought to do a much better job across this country instead of being so reactive(???). Catch these guys and make them pay dearly for the offences. Just look at the way they still drive around here despite all the efforts made by the governement and so many private organisations. Note: My apologies for drifting a little bit out of from the main subject here, but I just need to vent out my anger. Good night! |
I would like to extend my most sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues.
DIABOLO |
RIP brothers!

My sincere condolences. I am all for the donation box in CBC.

God Speed Guys...
At times like this it's good to see Emirates there for the families and arranging everything and a having a part of the company that you can count on when you really need them. Will look out for the Box at CBC for the families. |
Just back and heard the terrible news.
A tragic loss. My condolences to Family and Friends. |
Bloody awful news :{:{ Tragic for the families of all the dead. But when will the Police finally start being proactive instead of sweeping up the debris and lives of accident victims.
Glad i have a LARGE 4x4, at least it may protect me and my loved ones from these out of control idiots on the DXB roads. Great idea on the ££$$$ collection. EGGW |
Glad i have a LARGE 4x4 That may not help, its amazing how often they end up upside down in even the most minor collision or after a blow out. My family have done the Toyota barrel roll and survived. The crash stats are interesting but I reckon a good quality big saloon is safer than most 4x4s. Mercs etc. Anyway who cares, its a crap place to be when you can't stop on a hard shoulder without being murdered by some idiot. RIP |
RIP. What was his name though?. As much as they try and educate drivers here about speeding etc it will never work. It's just a fact we all have to live and take extra caution on those roads. When it's time to go its time to go and thus this gentleman had to leave us.:(
|
Tragic news.
Sincere condolences to all concerned. |
Depends what you call large i guess ;)
Anyhow, lets keep this thread on track and not swerve too far off, thats for the muppets on DXB roads, grrrrrrrr. :ugh::ugh: EGGW |
Condolences to the families. Don't know either person, but hopefully the community in DSO have rallied around to help.
Can't the EPC and Flight Ops arrange a collection for the families? I particularly feel for the second guy (who was here for the interview). At least the EK employee will have some sort of insurance. The other guy will have nothing. What a mess - we are all at risk. |
Bank Account set up in wife's name
After many queries to the company from colleagues wanting to make donations, a bank account has been set up in his wife's name. The details of the bank account are available on the crew portal.
:yuk: |
Thanks will check that out.

A nice tribute to our colleague on the EPC web site. A very moving poem.
High Flight Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long delirious, burning blue, I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or even eagle flew - And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod The high untresspassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand and touched the face of God. Pilot Officer Gillespie Magee No 412 squadron, RCAF Killed 11 December 1941 This poem, High Flight, has over the years become a mantra to pilots. It is reproduced here as a tribute to, and in memory of pilots of all generations |
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the unfortunate families. May God be with you in this hour of need.
