Hello all,
Firstly, thanks to the contributors to this thread. It has been a valuable source of information.
I'd like to ask anyone(or knows of someone) who has successfully negotiated an extended period between getting a 'yes' letter and the joining date.
I meet the requirements, but due to circumstances, I can't start for at least another year. I'd like to get the ball rolling and try my luck. But as process times vary quite a bit, I don't want to be in a position where I am lucky enough to get a yes but can't start at their given date.

Any insights or advice is appreciated.

Ciao.

There is definitely leeway on when you start and they are very accommodating in my experience. However two notes, you have to start your course within one year of your assessment, and also your assessment can be as much as 6 months from your application if not more, so if you applied today, you may get a yes by end of summer and a course date for start of next summer. So I'd say get the ball rolling now.

Hi all, anyone passed assessments in the last few months of 2023 and still waiting on a start date? Boeing or Airbus?

Busdriver01 25th Jan 2024 16:20

Had an email recently from EK saying they've reviewed my application and would like to invite me to fill in a full application - I applied years ago (probably just as covid was kicking off) and never heard anything. Is that common? Did they get to the bottom of the barrel and then decide to contact me, or did they just have that many applications to work through that it's taken them this long to respond? Shall I go for it?!

Any word of a payrise?

Why not? If you’re still interested in joining

Absolutely go for it. It's a long process. After the online stage they'll invite you to do the assessment in Dubai and you can bring your spouse if you're married (flights and hotel provided). It's a good experience. You can decide after that.

i got the same email and interested. But i just have a few questions. I fly for one of the legacies in the US and my schedule affords me to go to school as well. The program is all online so I could do it from Dubai if I so happen to get hired. I am just wondering about the schedule flexibility in Emirates. Is one easily able to choose their days off for their schedule for instance if I have an exam on a specific date, can I choose my days off accordingly?

Also does Emirates have a seniority system like they do here in the US? Someone told me that everyone gets the same pay and treatment and seniority doesn’t have much play?

We have a comedian in our midst.
Lol, good one. Well no need to do your studies abroad when in Dubai. There is an Aviation University here ( "the Middle East’s leading educational institution for aeronautical engineering, aviation management, business management, aviation safety and security studies")!

And yes you can study there in your 8-12 offdays a month. You can come over, it is never boring in this part of the world. Halas.

The website LatestPilotJobs is all you need. They have an EK interview preparation package including practice for what you mention. It's paid but totally worth it.

if being able to choose your days off and having the lifestyle/flexibility to do other study is important to you then it is absolutely one of the last places you should consider.

As a former EK pilot now back in the US stay far far away…. It’s a completely different job out at Emirates. The ONLY similarity is that both jobs involve flying aircraft, that’s it! In terms of QOL/Schedule flexibility (there is none)/training environment/stress levels EK and a U.S. Legacy is night and day different. This would not be a “lateral move” for you but a step down, there’s a reason why the vast majority of US pilots left about 5-10 yrs ago, some went back to a US regional to escape, that should tell you something! EK makes complete sense and a great opportunity and a step up for many pilots globally….. for you as a US legacy pilot it is most definitely NOT!

TheSkiingPilot 29th Jan 2024 18:17

Hi guys,
Any idea on how long the waiting period is from acceptance (passing all the assessments) to starting the training course? I’ve heard numerous figures and would love to have an updated estimate? Cheers!

Stay away from it, as far as you can run… Big step down in your particular circumstances!

About the Medical for EK: What is your maximum BMI to join? 30 I've heard? Or according to age?

Thanks,

It's 29 now.

I'm in the process now, and it's been reduced recently.
