Not to mention the 777 guys who were let go as well. People seem to forget there are 2 fleets

Seems strange they prepare to ditch a dozen plus of the aircraft that are fuel efficient and make money whilst increasing the A380 fleet that is all but grounded and looses money. I am not sure of that math either.
" ... we have these A380s on for long-term debt. That's one thing. What can we do with them, sell them? No, we can't ... / ... If we can activate the A380 fleet, which we have to live with, we got no choice ..." So here they are. Actually it makes sense to re-use the A380s, the loss is smaller than just scrapping them. It was the same with the Concord, the spare parts contract were long term and operating the expensive bird was in effect cheaper than just paying for unused spare parts. It is a hefty weight on EK, but if they want to stay in business, they have no choice but to use their expensive birds. Later they can try to replace them with efficient twins as fast as possible. I understand there is a lot of cargo moving around, but if the video I saw of the insane queues at DXB on new years eve are anything to go by, then the load factors can't be that bad.... |
Lots more back slapping on LinkedIn again folks. Apparently EK is Airline of the year and ‘sir’ TC has been given a lifetime achievement award. I presume that this award did not reflect on industrial issues nor employee relations. Pure comedy gold I would say. Plus lashings of sycophancy on aforementioned LinkedIn post. You really couldn’t make it up.
|
What’s the award? Most airline redundancies and lives wrecked 2020?
|
Pork sword of honour?
|
Well, there goes the UK passenger traffic for 6 weeks......
|
As some people thought the UK bubble was going to save EK. Narrow minded thinking I'm afraid. Long haul airlines are years away from a recovery .

A minimum of 6 weeks with another review then. Wouldn't be surprised if it is a lot longer and towards the Summer. |
TC is well known for taking all the credit for the success and evading responsibility for failure. Good results = TCTCTCTCTCTCTC; Bad results = Corona, china, recession, oil is cheap, oil is expensive, challenging macro environment, regulation, etc...
To him, the employees are just peasants that he uses to archive the highest bonus he can squeeze out of this desert. But then again, didn't most expats come to dxb to get whatever they can out of this place and get the duck out?.. Why should he be any different. |
'But then again, didn't most expats come to dxb to get whatever they can out of this place and get the duck out?."
Yes, for me anyway although some others for additional reasons I imagine. Not so much now of course but earlier years had great opportunities to make the most of a tax free environment and earn a salary that could never be attained south of the equator. |
I think this is the same for almost everyone.
But because it was so good for so long ( for example no redundancies in the GFC), complacency set in. The good times were expected to roll on forever. COVID is just a reminder that EK/EY/QR are just like any other expat job. You’ll be the first gone and no such thing as seniority/loyalty. By all means come and “have some fun in the sun” making some tax free $$$, but never forget the lessons of 2020. |
What’s the latest on the following rumor
pilot used the medical benefit - got diagnosed with cancer - and short after shown the path down the exit - is it true? |
Not Entirely, factored into overall productivity. Below the line - gone.
|
I’m shocked that someones productivity would drop due to something as trivial as cancer.
|
Bean counters run the airline . To them is black and white . All that maters to TC . I know many outstanding individuals that were culled , TC could care less what they did to help the airline in the early days . Absolute shame !
