EK, Qatar and the one down the road are fighting to hire pilots from the same pool, and that pool is drying fast. The unmentionable is very fast calling people to their assessments, and even faster offering a contract to be signed if you are successful. Their minimum requirements are long gone through the window, and people is looking forward for their commands after being in the company for less than two years. I've been told that even cabin crew are being offered pilot courses... maybe joining there as cabin crew is a faster way to become captain than joining EK at this moment. :}

On the other hand, I don't see it as a bad thing. (lowering minimums to 1500 turboprop, not becoming a Cabin Crew). But I think training department will have to be reinforced and prepared to share the pressure with recruitment. They will have to train people and help them jump from turboprop to wide body without passing through a 320 or 737, for example. That means training. Not just checking. Of course quality levels should remain the same, only experience levels to be reduced.

There are a lot of good pilots and operators without jet experience out there. It's not the same to fly a Caravan for tourist rides, than operating an ATR in US, Canada or Europe.

Will see how it goes.

i dont think the pay is good there also heard treatment of expats not so very friendly

Istanbul is quite e nice city and much closer to home ... expats are expats everywhere!

English is hardly spoken by anyone
expensive place to live in lieu of what they pay
expats are not in the numbers that you would see at EK

aileron i do agree with you that expat numbers are not even close to EK but if you are saying that Istanbul is an expensive place, i would say that you haven't seen Europe or Dubai. You can live in a decent house with 1000-1500 euros per month in Istanbul. It is more like 4000 euros in Dubai. Eating outside at a mid level restaurant for 2 people dinner would cost you 50 euros in Istanbul. In Dubai it is at least 80-100 euros and in Europe it is like 60-70.
Salaries for FO in TK is like 5500 euros and that is less then middle east. However there is the sandpit and Istanbul. The choice is there. However i strongly recommend for the married pilots to consider Istanbul over Dubai. Because for 5 months your wife won't be able to go outside and that may cause some problems if you know what i mean :ouch: :cool:
And about the english part. That is right that TK is a little problematic about that. However if you are a captain, most of the time you won't have any problems. Especially if you are on wide body in TK you will have 3-4 flights a month with 10 consecutive days off. Which means approximately 60-70 hours of flight maximum. Which means you have free time unlike EK...
Those are my sincere observations, including opinions of many friends flying for TK.

And sorry about 4000 euros. It is more like 3000. My mistake.
Still if you are the one only looking for money EK might be a good choice. But if you want to balance things as flight(fatigue) and moneywise i would strongly recommend TK wide body.
TK 737? That is a whole different story but types of A320 family, A330, A340 and 777 are pretty relaxed with the flight times and the rest times. However the annual leave is very bad in TK. 14-20 days(i don't know the exact number of days).

mmm... comparing THY to EK? Are you sure about that?

are you telling us that if you were offered a job by both, you will chose THY? I mean, if you weren't Turkish.

All i am saying is if you will get paid around the same amount according to the purchasing power of location and fly approx. 60-65 hours a months with at least 10 consecutive days off. It would be a better idea to think about TK 777 instead of EK 777. Including the difference between a desert and a normal overcrowded city. I am not saying that TK is a better company or anything but it is related with what you are seeking.
A place where you can earn good money with relaxed flight times, can go out 24/7 365 days a year, be close to your homecountry, a lot of free time
or
a place you will earn really really good money, you are on a dessert, you will be indoors for 3 months at least a year but have some good annual leave, fly crazy hours with all night flights(not working at EK so just writing what is mentioned 1000 times on this forum) , a little far away from home.
That is all i am saying...

Turkish is comming to dubai the 20 and 21 for a roadshow. I think it is worth to go and see what they offer.

You forget that TK gives 16 salaries :ouch: per the contract

AAR has said that the experience requirements will not be lowered as we have an ample supply of qualified pilots with medium jet experience.

Perhaps to admit anything else is loosing too much face.

Did AAR also happen to mention that he is violating his own OM-A with regards to the DEC hirings?
All DECs will have wide body experience before being accepted at EK.
Yeah right, you can count on one hand how many of the DEC applicants have wide body command experience.
Also to be eligible for a upgrade an EK pilots needs 2,500 Emirates hours. They are calling FOs with as little as 1600 hours today.
Now the one who makes our conditions so bad is not going to lower the requirements and park airplanes. He can't be that stupid that anyone with 1/2 an ounce of brains and comman sense is going to believe him but a more accurate assessment is those same people with brains and comman sense have tuned him out a long time ago.
