EK-Direct Entry F/O on 380 ?

Is anyone in EK has some good sources on that?
Rumour or reality soon?
That would very be bad !
Means more years, with ****ty rosters and nights turns...for many F/O stuck on 330/340.
Cheers

Truth.
Soon A330-A340 FOs from other companies.
Next year A320 DEFOs

MosEisley 10th Nov 2012 09:10

It's inevitable and they simply don't care about fairness, bad rosters or anyone getting stuck. Ek makes money, not friends. There were many FOs who wanted off the 330/340 but couldn't for years because of the policies in place at the time. Now guys are going over in a year. The 330/340 fleet is slowly shrinking and will be gone eventually. Some guys will get seat locked until the fleet dies. It happens at every airline when retiring a fleet. The good news for those guys will be the cushy rosters when the fleet gets down to just the 345s. They simply can't keep hiring onto a dying fleet. 380 Defos save the company lots of money in the short and long term.

Guy's, i don't know about FO but i did bump into 2 gentlemen about to enter the sim dressed up as "civilians" claiming they were assessing as 380 DEC.
True or not, I don't know...

Payscale 10th Nov 2012 13:16

No I dont think so.
The A380 has been used for pilot assessment in the past. That doesnt mean you will the the A380. If they thought they were going to be A380 skipper I think they are in for a surprise.

flynhigh 10th Nov 2012 16:36

Is A380 roster better than B777 fleet?...Whats makes the 380 a better roster?..is it more days off in a row or is it better destinations.

Avid Aviator 10th Nov 2012 16:58

A380

I suspect the "civilians" were A380 SFI candidates, which EK is currently recruiting.
Yes, direct entry A380s are now being sought, need 1500hrs fly by wire Airbus time. Previously had to be A380 type rated. I doubt internal conversions will stop or slow noticeably given the A380 delivery schedule.

fatbus 10th Nov 2012 18:51

The DEC's on the 380 will be able to do all the India turnarounds !

Capt. Flamingo 10th Nov 2012 22:16

Okape that was mean.... But friggin hilarious!!!!

Iver 11th Nov 2012 02:28

Thought I read an ex-Singapore A380 FO was hired directly onto the 380 at EK? True? Obviously that type rating and experience helped.

If you talk to the Volvo drivers, most are upset that they cannot transfer to the bus driving fleet as not only are the working hours and salary better, but they receive an allowance for loading the cabin crew suitcases. Two different companies so no transfer prospects. If pilots bother converse with the drivers on occasions, some have interesting stories to tell of a wholly different struggle with Dubai life. Amazes me that some feel this is beneath them to engage with the drivers. ( Apologies for thread creep.)

Made me laugh to see one skipper a few years ago wanting to file a report with FDM Jacquie because his driver didn't carry and load his suitcase into the trunk without being asked....

...and before you all assume which part of the world he was from, he was in fact a Western European.:ugh:

vinayak 12th Nov 2012 12:33

How much crunch on the 380s for EK to to do so?

If just a bit then the selection process will be brutal

Capt. Flamingo 13th Nov 2012 13:00

My point exaclty, sometimes we complain so much that we face off reality, most people in Dubai kind of forget what the real world is like.

Newsflash, we don't have it that bad for a non union airline (if we stop comparing to BA, AF, etc etc).

And as Dirigible pointed out, some guys in Dubai have it real tough.

Joking aside, its so nice to land with the sun coming up, get your bag, get in the car and just shut eyes while the driver skillfully skims thru the morning traffic. I don't know how they stay alive with those 12 hours shifts!

Back to the topic, a friend (close friend, not friend of a friend) just got an email asking to update his airbus times because they are looking to start DEFO 380

archer_737 13th Nov 2012 14:19

Yes, a colleague in the Airbus just got an email asking him to be ready for an interview in the next few months. They mentioned that this was going to be for a DEFO in the 380. He's flying the 320 (no wide body experience).
Guess it is not a rumor anymore...

flynhigh 13th Nov 2012 14:51

Can someone be kind enough to share with us what type of roster A380 currently have and will have as more planes arrive...Someone told me they long stretch of days OFF something like 8 to 9 days off...any truth do that. Thanks

ruserious 13th Nov 2012 15:16

Max 5 days off without some kind of duty is now the rule. 380 F)'s average around 70 hours at the moment, but that will change, as does everything

flynhigh 14th Nov 2012 21:06

Are there any benefits being assigned A380 as supposed to other fleets?

VijayMallya 18th Nov 2012 10:26

I'm guessing the 380 will be getting good routes, initially at least....

harry the cod 19th Nov 2012 00:20

Ex 380-800 driver

For God's sake man grow up! Your constant infantile posts about which plane is better is growing tiresome. Why don't you actually answer the question rather than light the fire for another wind up thread creep.

Harry
