EK-Direct Entry F/O on 380 ?
Is anyone in EK has some good sources on that?
Rumour or reality soon? That would very be bad ! Means more years, with ****ty rosters and nights turns...for many F/O stuck on 330/340. Cheers |
Truth.
Soon A330-A340 FOs from other companies. Next year A320 DEFOs |
It's inevitable and they simply don't care about fairness, bad rosters or anyone getting stuck. Ek makes money, not friends. There were many FOs who wanted off the 330/340 but couldn't for years because of the policies in place at the time. Now guys are going over in a year. The 330/340 fleet is slowly shrinking and will be gone eventually. Some guys will get seat locked until the fleet dies. It happens at every airline when retiring a fleet. The good news for those guys will be the cushy rosters when the fleet gets down to just the 345s. They simply can't keep hiring onto a dying fleet. 380 Defos save the company lots of money in the short and long term.

Guy's, i don't know about FO but i did bump into 2 gentlemen about to enter the sim dressed up as "civilians" claiming they were assessing as 380 DEC.
True or not, I don't know... |
No I dont think so.
The A380 has been used for pilot assessment in the past. That doesnt mean you will the the A380. If they thought they were going to be A380 skipper I think they are in for a surprise. |
Is A380 roster better than B777 fleet?...Whats makes the 380 a better roster?..is it more days off in a row or is it better destinations.
|
A380
I suspect the "civilians" were A380 SFI candidates, which EK is currently recruiting.
Yes, direct entry A380s are now being sought, need 1500hrs fly by wire Airbus time. Previously had to be A380 type rated. I doubt internal conversions will stop or slow noticeably given the A380 delivery schedule. |
The DEC's on the 380 will be able to do all the India turnarounds !
|
Okape that was mean.... But friggin hilarious!!!!
|
Thought I read an ex-Singapore A380 FO was hired directly onto the 380 at EK? True? Obviously that type rating and experience helped.

If you talk to the Volvo drivers, most are upset that they cannot transfer to the bus driving fleet as not only are the working hours and salary better, but they receive an allowance for loading the cabin crew suitcases. Two different companies so no transfer prospects. If pilots bother converse with the drivers on occasions, some have interesting stories to tell of a wholly different struggle with Dubai life. Amazes me that some feel this is beneath them to engage with the drivers. ( Apologies for thread creep.)

How much crunch on the 380s for EK to to do so?
If just a bit then the selection process will be brutal |
My point exaclty, sometimes we complain so much that we face off reality, most people in Dubai kind of forget what the real world is like.
Newsflash, we don't have it that bad for a non union airline (if we stop comparing to BA, AF, etc etc). And as Dirigible pointed out, some guys in Dubai have it real tough. Joking aside, its so nice to land with the sun coming up, get your bag, get in the car and just shut eyes while the driver skillfully skims thru the morning traffic. I don't know how they stay alive with those 12 hours shifts! Back to the topic, a friend (close friend, not friend of a friend) just got an email asking to update his airbus times because they are looking to start DEFO 380 |
Yes, a colleague in the Airbus just got an email asking him to be ready for an interview in the next few months. They mentioned that this was going to be for a DEFO in the 380. He's flying the 320 (no wide body experience).
Guess it is not a rumor anymore... |
Can someone be kind enough to share with us what type of roster A380 currently have and will have as more planes arrive...Someone told me they long stretch of days OFF something like 8 to 9 days off...any truth do that. Thanks
|
Max 5 days off without some kind of duty is now the rule. 380 F)'s average around 70 hours at the moment, but that will change, as does everything
|
Are there any benefits being assigned A380 as supposed to other fleets?
|
I'm guessing the 380 will be getting good routes, initially at least....
|
Ex 380-800 driver
For God's sake man grow up! Your constant infantile posts about which plane is better is growing tiresome. Why don't you actually answer the question rather than light the fire for another wind up thread creep. Harry |
Read his question.
'Are there any benefits being assigned to A380 as supposed to other fleets.' Don't bull**** man. You answered it looking for the usual bickering to start with mines bigger and better than yours. You even used the plural 'fleets'. Now you try to backtrack but referring to the 330/340 in your latest post. Last time I looked, there were a lot of B777's flying around with Emirates written on the side! There are + and - to all fleets, even the 330 if you don't want to fly 90 hours every month so be mature enough to accept that you didn't answer his question with the detail of information for which he sought. I've read enough of your posts to realise you like the last word so feel free. For once, put your ego aside....please. Harry |
Just for info ,what is the typical roster for A380F/O?
And if anybody an give me some infos regarding the accommodation for family of 4 :O thank s a lot jp |
Just for info ,what is the typical roster for A380F/O? Around 20-24 days off a month - a mix of operating and augmenting. This is 70 hours or 3-4 trips. Up to 7 days off in a row bordered either side with rest days = 9. It seems crewing aim to keep you in a single time zone each month so at the mo (for me) it's all Asia or all Europe or all N.America each month. Others may differ but from what I have seen, it's very similiar. |
All A380s to North America?
Clark stated he would ultimately like to see A380s used on all North American flights (including long range LAX and SFO) with double dailys to New York. Does that still sound likely? Will the A380s get a performance/range boost to serve LAX and SFO?
|
Sooner or later. the proper "landing fees" (supplied in a brown baggy) will be arranged, and the Dugong will be serving "incredible India", and then see which fleet is "best":{:{
|
It would make sense that India would progress from the 330 to the 777 and then the 380 , so when do you think all of India will be 777 before going 380?
|
For those who don't care about the debate of Airbus v Boeing etc and want to fly an A380 for Emirates.
The requirement is (if it hasn't been covered already) 3000hrs Fly by Wire Airbus time. Pre-selection to commence shortly. Source. Recruitment roadshow. Flyer. |
Forgot to add.
As Emirates is such a dynamic company, their recruitment is generally to fill whatever seat is available when they offer you the job. They can stream when required. Just as they are now with the 380. So I suspect for those of us a few years off.....we may still get a shot at the 380 without Airbus time!! |
Any word on when do they start calling?
|
Either during the week or on a weekend....
|
EK-Direct Entry F/O on 380 ?
Does any one have good info on when are they start to call the "shortlisted", or if they started already?
Thanks in advance!! |
Courses start in April. Expect a few and small classes in the beginning as a prof of concept. The A330 A340 are going so the only way is direct entry FOs. I believe you need a few thousand FBW airbus hours.
Goos luck |
A few selections done of folks from my airline with about 3000 a320 tome.
Joining to happen in December. Congrats to those guys. *wonders why I still haven't got a call* |
and as DEFO A380....
any other news? |
First DEFO 380 happens APR I believe. Rumour has it 100ish in the 13/14 Financial year.
The Don |
Hey Don,
Just to add some extra info to what you said. I know of at least two people who have already started 380 courses as DEFO so I'm not sure the guys in April are the first. Both of them had in excess of 3000 Airbus (320) time and a fair bit more total. Looks like DEFO 380 is very much a go'er at the moment. Remains to be seen how many guys they have that match that criteria and if they lower at any stage to meet demands. Wishing i'd converted sooner now!! Tai |
'cracked up' - I get it! It also has fractured SOPs and is quite often flown by pilots who are sport fissure-men. Some of them are a bit crazed.
|
Dropp
Not referring to White Knight by any chance are you?:D |
Are people successful in the assessment always called ???
Thanks !!! |
