Anyone have any reliable info or educated guess on how many of us are in the pool and how deep they might go when they start assigning classes next month? I was informed that we have to be in class before the 1 year interview date; not just assigned a class date before then. That tightens up the window quite a bit.

Al Murdoch 27th Aug 2012 21:56

Well as you don't know the length, breadth or depth of the pool, what are you basing that assertion on!?

boarderdw 28th Aug 2012 01:32

I used my "spidey senses"; hence my use of the word "guess"...

Watchagonnado 28th Aug 2012 12:23

As I understand though deliveries are coming, a glut of locals are being trained up as well as other GCC license holders ahead of pool candidates. Though it's possible some guys might be selected, most are being temporarily canned and there are even candidates being slated for the selection program early next year. No shortage of applicants. I've moved on. I'd suggest you do too. Anything else could be considered a bonus. Life goes on...

spider_man 29th Aug 2012 13:21

F/O recruitment is suspended indefinitely. Pool candidates are shortly to be given a Dear John. This is the word from over there. Gutted. Supposedly kicking off again in 2014/15. Sorry guys.
Can anyone verify this information please? No further FO selection until 2014/15?!

minwas 29th Aug 2012 13:37

@ Watchagonnado

when did you get your Dear John letter? where do you get your info? when did you do your assessment?

@ spider_man

it`s hard to believe that there will be no recruitment in the months to come. who the f&%$ is going to fly those planes?

TheGlide 29th Aug 2012 15:59

Heard from a reliable source that the holding pool will start to empty out next month and that recruitment will start up again before the end of the year for FO's.

Im not in the pool by the way just heard from a source in Recruitment.
Best of luck folks.

Luckyheader 29th Aug 2012 16:31

Bit doom and gloom on here...stay positive until your required notice period will run over the twelve month period. No news is good news for now.

BluSideUp 30th Aug 2012 02:55

Holding breath

Unless your unemployed! But yes, it is a bit doom and gloom. It's interesting how you get such varying opinions on here. Pool is bad. Pool is good. Need loads of pilots. NO PILOTS UNTIL 2014!

Rumours are always the most prevalent during times of silence. Keep your chin up. If you really want it, stay with it and keep believing! If another door opens before hand and you aren't sure about EK, maybe you're being told something...

fatbus 30th Aug 2012 06:02

Just remember the the focal year 2013/14 starts Apr 1 /2013. courses are filled until Apr next year IE no hiring until 3013/14 and good old pprune has turned that into 2014 . The only thing that has changed is the experience of the application to chose from.

Easy Ryder 30th Aug 2012 08:19

All courses are filled till April 2013? Thats news....

Maybe for Airbus courses, although 12 guys a Week or thereabouts being transferred to the 380 (from sept when qantas courses start) i get the feeling the 330/340 fleet will be coming up a bit short....

Boeing courses are booked up until mid Jan from what I gather.

Simple fact is lots of aircraft are coming, and I think they outnumber the amount of retirements. The latest I heard is they're not dropping the 343s (again).... So take a breath and look at things logically, not emotionally.

archer_737 30th Aug 2012 11:02

Well, always a surprise to see how 2 or 3 well informed guys have exactly opposite informations apparently from exactly same sources... :D

Just to correct something, the last email said AIRBUS courses were full for the financial year (till April 1st 2013) but BOEING courses to start again in late January 2013, dates to be given next month. So no, apparently not all the courses are full, just airbus.

Regarding to the above advise, yes, the unemployed guys like me are taking actions because waiting for EK could be the biggest mistake ever. Not much contract jobs out there, but some things now like THY for example. Will see how we can manage to leave a new job, probably bonded, if we get the call from EK.

Al Murdoch 30th Aug 2012 17:37

Guys - I think we should try and avoid panicking! I have it from a very good source that there will be an update in the next few weeks.
I don't have the Don's inside knowledge but I'm reasonably well connected and there is nothing to suggest that any of the above stuff about no recruitment 'til 2014 is true. Everything I hear points towards courses (Boeing) starting up in the next few months. Obviously that's not concrete but its the best I have.

Me Myself 31st Aug 2012 09:02

Hi

I know this is a F/O thread but I'm not going to start one to just check the following :

One of our pilots ( major european airline but not A380 rated ) apparently just got an offer from EK as a direct entry captain on the A380.
It does sound like Xmas in August to me but who knows.
Anyone with inside knowledge who could comment on this ? Rubbish or genuine ?

donpizmeov 31st Aug 2012 09:24

You are correct Me, the DECs are for 777 and 330 only. Why would anyone leave a command at a Major European carrier to start here on year 1 command pay? Almost harder to believe than the 380 command rumour.

The Don

speedhold 31st Aug 2012 09:56

ek application .updating.referees

Can anyone tell me how to update or change the.referee section online can't seem.to.find.where.to.change it
Thanks

Me Myself 31st Aug 2012 11:14

Don

Is this from a well informed insider view ? I take it you work for EK ?
I honestly can't see how EK could have outsider get direct entry command on the airline's Flagship but like many, I am an agnostic.

Why would anyone leave ???? :))))) Dear Don, if you knew where this guy comes from, you wouldn't ask.

So, I should keep smiling eventhough I was sold a truck load of tosh.

cheiser 2nd Sep 2012 00:12

Referee Section

I have the same problem i want to send my application for the first time but no section for Referee something knows where it must be writen ? the referee need to be from chief pilot or instructors? does somebody knows? Thank you

boarderdw 4th Sep 2012 17:04

Anyone know the PSP selection date for the last candidates in the pool? Beginning, mid or late May?

archer_737 4th Sep 2012 22:00

A guy who contacted me via PM in this forum to ask for some questions regarding the EK selection process was interviewing, if I remember well, late June.
I did it in early May.
I would say that the holding pool goes from mid February until late June maybe early July.

Good luck guys.

donpizmeov 4th Sep 2012 22:08

DEC interviews are ongoing at the moment.

The Don

Al Murdoch 6th Sep 2012 08:04

Update received. Broadly no change in situation. At the end of September they are going to start making offers for the 777 fleet for courses starting in Jan 2013. Numbers yet to be determined but more people in the pool than places available. No more airbus courses this year.

minwas 6th Sep 2012 08:27

:D for the update
:\ for the Jan courses
:( for the limited positions

Luckyheader 6th Sep 2012 10:17

It says there are more people in the hold pool than places available before the end of the financial year, which ends at the beginning of April. Last time I checked the pool goes into June/ July? Don't sweat about it!

White Knight 13th Sep 2012 07:08

but I just wanted to know why Emirates hasn't adopted the idea of DESOs
They don't want them. Period!

and help a lot of EK wannabes reach their goals sooner
EK does not have philanthropic tendencies. They have plenty of people applying as FO and DEC.

falconeasydriver 13th Sep 2012 11:15

just curious since it would drastically benefit EK financialy.
Says who?
Don't forget that the basic costs of type rating someone..then providing accommodation are the same, as are bringing families across etc..so no saving there.
Next, how many EK sectors actually require a cruise S/O, certainly a few on the 777 and a couple on the 380, but that's about it. I think EK understand that they can attract a reasonable standard of candidate without having to resort to 250hr heros, in any case we have a bit of that already with the local cadet pilots.
Lastly, my impression is, thanks to the location of the crew rest on our fleet, the local GCAA require two current and qualified pilots upfront at all times....a requirement that an S/O is unable to fill in their eyes.

Al Murdoch 13th Sep 2012 12:29

Guys can we restrict this stuff to the other many and varied threads on Emirates please? There are a great many jumpy pilots who are hoping to hear updates on this thread. Thanks.

donpizmeov 13th Sep 2012 12:52

Jungle drums say another 40ish DEC required before the end off financial year. This further reduces the number of FOs required. I am sure .HR/recruiting will update everyone once the dust settles.

The don

Al Murdoch 13th Sep 2012 12:56

Thanks Don - I've been calm and collected until now, but this is just becoming a joke. Time to look at other things.

White Knight 13th Sep 2012 13:46

WK
I'm sure you can agree with me that EK of all airlines would save a LOT of money by having SOs for their long haul flights than an all FO and Capt. crew. Surely there must be a good reason why they don't have them already, than just "they don't want them". I am not having a go or anything at you WK, just curious since it would drastically benefit EK financialy.

MC
Well. I'll put it this way. Last year was a 'bad' year financially at EK; making only $500 million odd profit (can't remember the exact figure), so saving by having cheaper SOs would be literally a drop in the ocean!

Besides - would you really want to be a 1,000hr SO while a cadet with 500 hours outranks you????

And to clarify - they really "just don't want them" is from the top

donpizmeov 13th Sep 2012 13:57

Well if we can't have SOs, can we get dancing girls?

White Knight 13th Sep 2012 13:59

Ah yes - good to see you're thinking straight:ok:

donpizmeov 13th Sep 2012 14:02

Mate,

The non straight go Boeing! :E

bucket_and_spade 13th Sep 2012 17:15

Dumb question maybe...

Why more DECs and not the upgrading of current EK FOs, leading to more FO recruitment?

White Knight 14th Sep 2012 00:43

Mate,

The non straight go Boeing!
Mate. No argument from me here:}:}:}

EK would love to upgrade more FOs... But logistically - difficult!

bucket_and_spade 14th Sep 2012 09:58

Hi White Knight,

You've intrigued me - logistically difficult...!?

B&S

White Knight 14th Sep 2012 14:59

Well as Ex A380 says it's a lot of extra training to get upgrades from the RHS at a time when the training department is stretched to the seams! As I say, logistically difficult... I'd like to see more F/Os upgrading believe me!!!

MidnightCobra 15th Sep 2012 01:39

non straight go Boeing
If it's not Boeing i'm not going :}

minwas 15th Sep 2012 04:48

I'll take both :E

MidnightCobra 15th Sep 2012 16:27

all in good humour

Ex A380 don't know if you were around when the boys/gals down at your previous outfit called the certain boeing aircraft you flew, the "ferrari of the skies" :ok:
