Hi Guys and Gals,
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what is going on with EK recruitment and interviews. I was scheduled to interview July22-24. Received a vague e-mail last night that the simulator has been canceled for those days. It did not say why or if the rest of the interview is still on (I am assuming not as I know this is the first step). It also said that the interview classes are full for the next three months so I will be put into a pool for sometime after that.
I responded offering to switch sims (from 310 to 777) and have gotten no response.
Any idea why just one class or sim would be canceled?
Thanks in advance for any info. It is much appreciated.

BUSTRASH 10th Jul 2008 02:20

Read Emirates hold pool and Interview results. In my opinion they either are slowing down interview and hiring either because they overestimated the amount of interviews needed to fill slots or they are going to reduce some flying or frequencies on a few routes. It seems they are reducing all costs possible in order to present a good end to the fiscal year. Some 777 delays and the A380 taking Jfk flying form the 777 plus Durbon suspended and LAX and SFO Delayed. It seems the Oil prices are eating into every Dept budget. Lets Hope for the best.
Regards

jet576 10th Jul 2008 04:33

777's from boeing delayed due to supplier problems. price of oil has very little to do with emirates growth. emirates wants as many planes as possible. heard courses for the rest of the year are full. if your looking at emirates. don't expect a job offer until the end of the year. if you don't have airbus or boeing time. it might be longer. good luck

brady114jen 10th Jul 2008 18:14

Thanks for the info. guys. I have plenty of Airbus and Boeing time, but just wasn't sure if it was a problem with my interview/ application or a blanket cancellation of interviews. I received another e-mail from recruitment today. It said that both simulators had been canceled for July 22-24 but that I would be given another date ASAP.
Thanks again.

interview status

I just got back from a Dubai interview. The last 3 interview groups to go started with about 8 guys and was cut by day 3 to just about 3 guys. From those 3-4 maybe 2-3 will actually be hired. While I did well in most areas and have high time and have done very well in past interviews and sim rides, I too was cut. It was very dissapointing. The fact is that they are full of class dates through the end of this year and they have a holding pool on top of that. There are some delays with the Airbus and the 777. You are lucky to have an interview cancelled now. It is better to wait for when they actually want to hire people. Just 2 months ago the pass rate was much higher, esp. to get moved on to day 3. If you do keep your interview pay for some practice sim time in the 310. It is well worth the money. Also even if you are an Airbus guy like me, ask to be on 777. The 777 sim guys have a much higher pass rate. They also are getting about 200 apps. a week. By the way, it use to be that they were looking at the person more. Now they are just looking at times and numbers, way more than other carriers do. The fact that they send qualified people home before ever talking to them face to face is amazing. It is a waste of time and money for both Emirates and the candidate. Some of the guys sent home were great people with lots of experience and great work ethic. One guy kept in our group was obnoxious, annoying, and arrogant. Definitely not someone you want as your captain. I would not be upset by a cancelled interview at this point. You want to wait until you actually have a better chance of getting the job. Good luck. We loved Dubai and would have moved there with the intent of retiring there. The lifestyle there is very appealing and the service and friendliness of many was amazing. The housing is a real issue. We were shown the ugly, small orange condos. Compared to Silicon Oasis this was very dissappointing and more like the projects. If people end up there, I hope they will stand up and say it is not tolerable. It is like one pilot having a $2 million dollar home while another is given a $750,000 home. Be patient and try to remember to look at what is best in the long run....a delayed interview or no job offer.

BUSTRASH 11th Jul 2008 00:54

Very imformative.
Gonoles is correct, the A310 is not easy I would recommend even renting a A300B4 sim, its the same airplane. In the USA they have one in CVG and in Europe in CDG and BRU. I did the interview in May and maybe things have changed but It seemed to me they were looking at the person. Im in the holding pool but 2 guys in my group actually got class dates. Dont know the rest but i think the other guys havent got a response. Good luck to all

williewalsh 11th Jul 2008 10:11

Ive completed the EK interview twice once for each seat. Two different formats.IE once with sim at the end and once with it at the beginning. Sucessful both times. Just relax do what you do and get on with it.:ok: I completed it (5 yearsago)when nobody complained on here about the standards and again since they have been complaining. I can assure you all there is no change in the level you are expected to reach. It is not however rocket science, nor a indication of your worth as a pilot. Failing doesnt mean your a bad pilot just as passing doesnt improve you as indicated from some of the attitudes on these boards.Just an indicator of their requirements. Too much preparation about stuff you dont know and youll come across as someone who is on edge and you wont shine.

Be enthusiastic but fatalistic and if its for you youll get it. Or as the EK chaps say...be yourself.
As for hold pools I dont know but I asked for a deferment for joining and got it no problem. The job may be there at the end of my deferrment , maybe not, but it wont be because EK were not helpful if not a little slow in the first instance.

Referees check.

I had only two of my referees checked as well, on the very first week after the selection. A friend that flies for EK said they actually need two referees and ask you to list three to have a back up one. It happened to other guys.
Best luck for all.

Emirates New Minimums

Just recieved an email from recruitment:

You have been contacted regarding our Emirates pilot selection process.
Unfortunately, we have recently amended our requirements. Previously, we were inviting applicants with up to 500 hours less than our joining requirements. This is no longer the case. Now, applicants must meet our full requirements of 2000 multi-crew multi-engine jet hours and 4000 total hours before coming for our selection program. On your latest application update you did not have the required hours.
Consequently we are unable to process your application further until you meet our requirements. Please update your application and send an email to [email protected] when you reach our required hours. We look forward to the opportunity to reviewing your updated application.
Yours sincerely,

The Emirates Pilot Recruitment Team
Fortunately I now meet this, but a sign of new times in the job market.:(

HurryUp&Retire 15th Jul 2008 21:27

honestly doubt it if they come in a while. you guys are going to get bunch of American applicants really soon that exceed those mins.

Obbie 15th Jul 2008 22:22

Is there anyone who knows of examples of guys going 10,11,12 weeks or
more and then hearing something.

I don't hear of many rejection letters, but I hear many examples of no
responce at all.

Capt. Biff 15th Jul 2008 22:54

11 weeks and counting and not a word, Skysod should be in week 12 or more weeks. My ref's still haven't been checked. Heard from a friend and this is what he said,

"Was in the new HQTRS today, and asked around about the rumor mill, was told only that there is a pool, training is delayed due to lack of gallies for the 777, only one more delivery this year vs planned 6.Classes are full through Nov. If you have not heard anything thats a good thing, housing is at a premium and not much available. No real need to hurry into an Apartment if you have a family.. Thats all I got from the rumor mill here in Dubai. Hang in there, this is still much better than flying for a US Major."

This info is a week old. Those that are e-mailing EK HR, are getting polite "please be patient".

Good luck

signal Aout 16th Jul 2008 00:08

Is there anybody who got a "no" in the last couple of weeks?

drnetsurfer 16th Jul 2008 05:49

Guys Waiting!

Hey I appreciate the kind words from the guys on here to be patient....but for the America guys out there like myself. Waiting 14,15, 16,17, 18 weeks in uncertainty is a bit crazy right now...... So, we better start working whatever else maybe available...( "Do you want to super size that sir!"). yes! I know! not much else out there. And trust me, I feel your pain. But we all know most of us (oh yeah! some of us) are counting down to walking the streets at some places. Having had a great experience with the Emirates interview...it's a bit disappointing not to have a courtesy email. Either the one that says we don't need your services or hang in there we want to hire you sit tight. Or even a hey we were desperate for guys before and now we have the pick of the guys in America in a few weeks when the carnage begins......your 737 time while desireable at the time you applied doesn't quite cut it. hey! At least it's honest.....as opposed to silence! now before the Brits, Aussies, South Africans etc etc start in on how Americans are so spoiled and demanding ( here we go!). A good number of other guys I interviewed with are waiting as well and they are not Americans. This game playing may well be the right of Emirates (since they're doing the hiring) and in accords with what they have to do business wise. But it still feels a bit rude to totally ignore emails when most of us were told to do so at the 6-8 week mark which has come and gone for most of us. So, is this the side of Emirates that wasn't shown in the interview phase? Is there more we don't know, I wonder? Hmmm:=

Capt. Biff 16th Jul 2008 15:52

11 weeks and 1 day. Just got the word.

"Application to join Emirates - Pilot Interview Programme in Dubai

I am writing in relation to your application to join Emirates as a First Officer, and your subsequent interview session in Dubai. We have now completed our assessment of all candidates and I regret to advise you that you have been unsuccessful.

Whilst this result will be a disappointment to you it is not meant to reflect adversely on you or those candidates who are not given an offer. I am sure you will realise that the final decision is often very difficult given the range of many excellent candidates.

I am sorry that this letter does not contain the result that you would wish and regret that I am unable to offer any feedback with regard to your assessment.

If you remain interested in pursuing a career with Emirates, we are now offering candidates the opportunity to reapply once a period of two years has passed from the date you initially attended a selection program.

I would like to offer my own and the Company's best wishes for your future success. Thank you for your interest in Emirates.

Yours sincerely,

Pilot Recruitment

This is a computer generated letter and bears no signature."I just want to say thanks for all of you who have helped along the way. Your guidance and insight proved helpful and I am greatfull for you time. I wish you all the best of luck.

Regards,
Biff

drnetsurfer 16th Jul 2008 16:57

Sorry Biff!

I am sure it's disappointing to wait that long of a period only to hear that sort of news. The no is disappointing but waiting 11 weeks stings a little....I am sure mine is on it's way. But I am getting back on the biking as we all must and try a different avenue.

Interview canceled

Just got an email telling me my interview was canceled in August, Said the dates were not available and I would be rescheduled at a later date. Anyone heard this happening recently??

yukimaki2 17th Jul 2008 07:53

Yes--my scheduled interview for July 27-29 just got cancelled due to "operational circumstances". Perhaps a future slot, she said. She'll have to advise later........

machten 17th Jul 2008 17:43

Also got the same email. I was going to be there with yukimaki on the 27-29 July. Oh well, on to the next one.

signal Aout 17th Jul 2008 18:07

drnetsurfer, well said. reading all the postungs, it is crazy that it took them 11 weeks to send a computer generated message to tell you, thanks, but no thanks...I guess I will receive the same mail here pretty soon, 11 weeks for me and no ref check.lets move on.....

Capt. Biff 17th Jul 2008 19:26

Hey guys it will get better, in time. You can blame the manufactures, the world economy, price of oil, and thousands of well qualified candidates. Yeah it sucked waiting so long. But I expected it to be different at EK then here in the states. EK does things its way and I am fine with that. So far 6 guys out 10 have offers. Thats pretty good odds, for interviewing at the end of April. Interviewing now would be a lot more difficult.

I am lucky still have a job where I like going to work. In a year will see. But my main reason for going over was to see what it would be like. And to not ask my self 5, 10, 20 years down the road what if? Why didn't I at least try? Well I did. No harm no worries. At least I tried, and I wont for ever have to wonder what if?

Cheers,
Biff

Recruitment Update-
§ Large numbers of well qualified pilots are still applying to Emirates on a weekly basis. We currently have a substantial reserve of high quality candidates available for interviews. Our main source of applicants is still North America and the prognosis is for this trend to continue.

Cyberbird- what happened to those 50'ish resignations that you said would come after profit share.....??????

what happened to those 50'ish resignations that you said would come after profit share.....??????
According to the seniority list that is about right. Not sure about the exact figure but it seems approx. 40-50 guys left EK since May.

Some of them are FO's who have not even completed the first 3yrs...

Apparantely many newbees are seriously unhappy, makes me wonder..... Housing and training seem to be the main issues

    White Knight 28th Sep 2008 13:42

Not really snorkel.. On the portal there are maybe 2 or 3 per month, maybe 7 in the one month - so since May probably 20 or so.. I certainly haven't gone 40-50 places up the seniority list - and yes, I'm aware that more recent hires are leaving too..

sounds a lot if true - but without knowing what the equivalent rate is in other airlines of a similar size worldwide you don't know if it means anything or is just normal, natural wastage.

    Wiley 28th Sep 2008 14:56

A disinterested observer could be forgiven for coming to the conclusion that someone **up there** has come up with the brilliant idea to "save" money by lowering the average time in company (and therefore the median wage) of pilots to a level that is as low as possible by p**sing off as many longer term staff as they possibly can.

    MrMachfivepointfive 28th Sep 2008 15:32

    Yawwwnnnn

:bored: Thought this threat was long dead. I rather like the 'you know that you are in Africa...' dig in the parallel universe.

Yes its true: Nobody has ever seen EK management during daylight. In any case we never show up in mirrors and live off a high protein diet. My favourite is O minus.
Our sole purpose for being undead is to trap unsuspecting flyboys and make them unhappy.
    1) By making them work more than 20% of their lifes.
    2) By having the community pool two centigrades too warm or cold.
    3) By refusing to provide a stretch limo as crew transport for four ringers. Instead you get a lousy Audi A6. And the colour? ... Eeeeeeek! Silver! How retro!
    4) By only providing first class travel, instead of a Gulfstream V.

    Dec A380

As a longtime resident in the sandpit up in BAH, you guys at EK don't seem to be enjoying life very much. If you're short I'll be happy to fly your A380 as a DEC with a suitable pay rise to go with the undoubted prestige:ok:

    Wiley 28th Sep 2008 17:02

My comment a little too close to the bone, M5.5? Sorry, MrM5.5.

On that point, I'd really love to 'get a life' if only the *** rostering people would let me!!!

Is ANYONE happy at Emirates? Keep discovering until you find better shinning. All these recruitment guys here in the Gulf are laughing their way to and from the road shows. They have got so much to choose from nowadays. Bad days for so many airlines are bonanzas for these guys here. Will they change anything? :=
We've got to be positive. What negativism brings you :)?

    Engineering Jobs

Ok, I've read the thread and understand that EK pilots are p155ed off/completely happy/resigned/angry/satisfied/etc,etc.

Question, going by your own experiences and your flt deck chats with engineers, are they as happy/sad etc as your selves or is the grass greener with a spanner in ones hand?

I ask only because my current employer has announced large redundancies and I am looking for a "new challenge".

Tried asking the same question of engineers in EK but they seem strangely tight lipped. Would that be a clue as to their happiness?

This is a serious question by the way and not a wind up.

    Regards, T. :ok:

    MrMachfivepointfive 29th Sep 2008 14:32

    Don't !!

Live off unemployment benefits or sell your children for medical experiments - whatever it takes, stay away.:eek::eek:
Gulfnews reports that the salinity of the Gulf's waters has increased significantly owing to the bitter (and salty) tears of EK pilots and fitters, flowing in streams.
(Even the mentioned community pools are reported to turn salty).
Shipping wins, though. Saltier water = less draught = more payload.
