Seven weeks for me. 5 out 10 from my group got offers from EK. One guy got his two weeks after the interview, he needed to know right away. Anyway they have not checked my references and I have not been told no thanks either. So here I sit, and sit, and sit, and sit.

yada.yada.yada 18th Jun 2008 06:08

Anyway got another job offered in another company, with better T&C but still hoping the good news to arrive

So let me see if I understand this, you got a job offer, with better package, yet you still want to come to EK?

QAR 18th Jun 2008 06:48

Just would like to know if this is true...

heard alot of american airlines closing shop or even downsizing..

so there are alot of pilots in america with high time in the market...

i have heard that EK is giving this guys priority and interview slots to them..

is there any truth in this ???

emratty 18th Jun 2008 07:01

QAR in reply to your question the numbers of pilots required by Emirates has dropped this year the rumours are no more 777's for at least six months which means the only recruitment at the moment will be on the Bus. EK will go for the more qualified pilots ie Boeing or Airbus in order to reduce training costs.

koenig 218 18th Jun 2008 10:09

Can anyone tell me what is a compass test everyone mentions you get at the EK interview?

Emirates (EK) Interview - all you need to know about it (threads merged)

Hi all,

I got 3500 hours tt and am applying to ek, how long does did it take you guys to get invited for the Emirates sellection process?

rgs,

H

FLChamp 18th Jun 2008 17:29

4000 hours minimum !!! good luck...lot's of interest from the land of the free..with lots of experience !!

bobbins 18th Jun 2008 17:35

I applied 5 weeks ago with 4300tt (4000 A320/1) and have yet to hear anything other than the standard application acknowledged email. See they had another ad in Flight International this week though....hopefully hear something soon??

skysod 18th Jun 2008 19:24

FWIW I've got 6500 hrs. completed the on line application on the Sunday and had the interview dates by the Wednesday!
Having said that, attended the assessment 8 weeks ago now and still haven't heard!
Contacted them 2 weeks ago to ask for a decision and was told that these things take time and will hear in due course..................still waiting!!

Jockofthebushveld 18th Jun 2008 20:32

EK has the ball in their court again , lots of airlines in trouble and they again are very picky, only 4000+, the 3500 for the interview is gone as well as you need the weight behind you ,55 tones and 2000jet.
Also B777 delayed and they are now only hireing for the busses.

Am I correct ? this is the latest i heard on the flight deck

Good luck...

Warbirds 18th Jun 2008 20:56

bobbins

were you flying a 320 when you had 300hrs total?

Blue320 19th Jun 2008 18:20

That was a good read...thank you!
Just curious: Did you have auto/throttle, F/D, A/P usage during the single eng. appr. or was it all manual as well?

bobbins 19th Jun 2008 21:59

Warbirds

Yes.

I was fortunate enough to be an airline sponsored cadet. It was a steep learning curve though!

Regards
Bobbins

casio man 20th Jun 2008 01:55

Efacto

The single engine work was mainly stick and rudders. You do get the AT for the take off run, and on the T7, there is single AT control.

No FD, no AP and no TAC (thrust assymetry control, i think its something to assist rudder deflection during single engine).

I got radar vectored for localiser intercept and thereafter it was Raw Data flying down to minimas.

Have fun!:)

LearBus 20th Jun 2008 15:51

Seems that the profile varies a bit. I was on the A310 and during the prebrief they told us that we could use the FD during the SE portion of the ride and I did...you'd be crazy not to. They also allowed me to use the Auto throttle but I chose not to because I'm only familiar with the AT system on the 320 and the 310 was completely different.

LB

Blue320 21st Jun 2008 14:12

I guess the A310 is a new addition to the sim evals? I'm currently on the 320 so I'm assuming that is what I will get for my eval. Regardless, I think I'll be using whatever help I can get! I've not manipulated a throttle in many years!

LearBus 21st Jun 2008 15:15

Being a 320 driver doesn't mean you'll be on the 310. I know 4 guys with no Boeing time and a bunch of 320 time that did their evals in the 777. It's just luck of the draw. Also, during the prebrief, they told us that the 310 auto throttle system over compensates thrust movements while single engine, and if you're comfortable, you're probably better off without using it. Maybe a 310 driver can lend some more help.

Warbirds 21st Jun 2008 18:06

good luck to you, i'm shure they will offer you an interview soon.:ok:

Emirates Interview

7000 hrs total, PIC type in the a320 with 700 hrs, 5000 hrs in a dash ... I got the email stating I did not meet there qualifications!!!

I hope this is just a computer generated response and that a human will look at the applications!.....

Anyone got any ideas about this?

michaelbusa 21st Jun 2008 19:49

THIS IS FOR DASHPILOT:
Emirates is very clear & quite picky about their requirements, unless I misunderstood your post; you do not meet the minimum requirements stated for FO. Here's a copy from their site:
Requirements for Position of First Officer - A330/A340 and B777
  • A minimum of 4,000 hours total flying time
  • A minimum of 2,000 hours multi-crew, multi-engined jet aircraft experience
  • ICAO ATPL
  • English language fluency (written and verbal comprehension)
  • Experience commensurate with age
  • Type rated would be advantageous
Short of our Minimum Hours Requirement?
Due to high levels of interest expressed by candidates who are close to our minimum hours requirements, we are pleased to announce that we will now accept and review applications from candidates for First Officer positions who do not yet meet our published minimum hours requirements.
Candidates who are up to 500 hours below total and/or multi-engine jet hours are invited to submit their applications and may be offered the opportunity to attend a selection programme in Dubai. Successful candidates must, however, meet published minimum hours requirements prior to joining.

Due to the airline indrustry problems worldwide, Emirates is receiving many applicants that do meet and exceed the minimum requirements, and selecting to contact only those top applicatants. They want the applicants/candidates to be very prepared; so you may not want to hurt your chances of being selected in the future, once you have the requested experience, good luck!!

cf680c2b 21st Jun 2008 22:01

I have about 6000 hour with 1500 on the 747-400. I havn't heard anything either. I think the bar has gone up to 3 orbits and a couple of lunar landings .

NautiFlyer 22nd Jun 2008 04:23

Consider this

CF6...
I joined EK last year after waiting 8 months for a DEC interview... I applied with 10K+ TT, and 5K+ as a -11/-10 Captain. Additionally I had 20+ years of Military Flying... After arriving, and going through the interview process (only 2 out of 8 of us were hired), I opted to come to EK as an FO...a decision I am very happy I made! Coming to EK, or any other airline for that matter, requires you to check your ego in at the door, and learn what you can from those who have local experience...
I say this because, I easily could have had an interview much sooner with EK had I just applied for the FO position initially!
Those of you out there that are applying for EK and are coming from the left seat, and feel you "must" get a job as a DEC.... more power to you... but perhaps a slice of humble pie is in order, and taking the FO job will not only get you in the door quicker... but in the end, you'll have a much easier time adjusting to all the interesting facets of life in Dubai. (Not to mention understanding all there is to learn about EK)
There are plenty of threads to read about the DEC issues, etc... please read at your own leisure. I simply want to alert "some" out there that are waiting to hear from EK and tout all kinds of experience... well,... double check your application, and where it says, "Will you accept a FO position"... maybe you should give that some serious thought... it was one of the best decisions I ever made.
:ok:
NF

casio man 22nd Jun 2008 05:29

NF,

Glad I was not the only one with the same thought process! Got into the interview with 4000+ PIC on the NG (TRE) and a total of 8500 on Jet >55t. Figured coming in as an FO would be the best and since we will get a villa (2 rugrats in tow!), it all makes sense!

Joining them in Aug, but i hear that housing is a mess, and will continue to be so for awhile longer:bored:

cf680c2b 22nd Jun 2008 11:29

Nautiflyer, thanks for the feedback. Actually, my app. is for the FO position. Never the less, still no response from EK. Standing by. Good luck to all the wannabees out there.

ca_flyer 22nd Jun 2008 21:22

Recently submitted app on line for DEC. Received automated shortlist email w/in 72 hours (over the weekend); anyone have an idea when they may contact me for an interview date? Once contacted do they offer specific dates to select, or ask what dates or best for you to come? Anyone offerered a DEC opening at selection process? Also, do they allow fiancee(soon to be spouse) to accompany (pay for both our flights) on selection process? Any help, suggestions will be appreciated; it's been a long time since been through this process, thanks and good luck to us all :ok:

Obbie 22nd Jun 2008 21:56

They do their best to find a date that works for you.
You are 100% responsible for your partner. Airfare and food.
2 months after the interview, you should have an answer.

Suggest you start doing a little searching, all your questions have been
answered before in this forum, and this is not a North American situation
you are considering.

It requires much investigation in order to really understand what you are
truely about to get yourself into......Not doing your homework here can have
very bad results.

ca_flyer 22nd Jun 2008 22:29

Thanks Obbie...

I have been doing quite a bit of research here and the emirates site, since this may be one of the biggest life decisions, if selected. (Especially after reading current employees misgivings). I have seen different responses on this forum about when contacted for interview dates & notification if you are a successful candidate; just need some clarification so can plan accordingly. For those that have been to Emirates, did you bring your spouse/partner? How did you arrange the flights financially? Couldn't imagine making a move without both of us knowing what to expect in Dubai, and want this to be beneficial for both of us. Thanks again for everyone's input, really helping us learn more about Emirates and Dubai.

Fullboat2 22nd Jun 2008 23:24

Took 6 weeks for me to get notified

Got the email last week... was roughly six weeks from interview to acceptance letter. Most everyone that interviewed when I did got contacted the same week....

Capt. Biff 22nd Jun 2008 23:53

So how long does it take HR at EK to tell you "thanks but no thanks"? Its been two months for me and I haven't heard a thing from them. Does this mean that I till have a chance?

As far as airfare for the interview, I spent about $1,800 for my girl to go out to DXB for the interview. FL to JFK round trip on Delta, and EK round trip. $150 of that figure was for me to get to ATL round trip from FL. I didn't want to chance trying to Non-rev so I made the reservations about two months in advance.

The Majestic hotel wouldn't let her stay without getting their share too and charged me about 100dhs a night for her as well. Sad they wouldn't give us a room with a King size bed so we slept in seperate beds, the singles were to small.

skysod 23rd Jun 2008 12:51

9 weeks now and still waiting, together with 6 others who attended the assessment the same time as me!

Blue320 23rd Jun 2008 16:18

I posted this on another thread but just curious if anyone had the similar....

---------
I've been sched for a July 1 interview for over a month with no travel itinerary and have been sending them reminder emails. Just got an itinerary this am asking if I could do it: The email said that unfortunately they were not able to accomodate me with a direct flight because they were all booked. Instead they are booking me on a Virgin Atl. flt, with a 6 hrs sit then connect with Ek to DXB. 24hrs total (in economy) later I land at 23:55 in DXB. I'm assuming arriving at 01:30 or so at the hotel...do all the paper work...to bed at 0230 then up at 0500 for the 0600 shuttle then start a 12 hr day of interviewing.
Don't know about any of you but I can't sit 24hrs in Y class then get 3 hrs sleep at the hotel and be expected to look, speak, react, like a professional. So, I told them with all due respect....no thank you but I could leave a day early. Waiting on their response! Maybe it will be "stay home"! If so then I know what kind of company I'm dealing with and they will save both of us our time! I'm hopping not!

skyvan 24th Jun 2008 07:43

You should get at least the first day at leisure, for you to recover, then you will do your 3 days of selection, then they will ship you out on the first flight available!

Good luck.

ocala 24th Jun 2008 08:39

Flip the coin

OK guys, what about this scenario:

How many of you did successfully go thru the entire three days of the selection program and had to wait for how many weeks to be denied by
EK finally?
Your inputs should clear it up.

I am in my fourth week, still waiting, without getting mad, aware that one of the guys got his referees checked (and is still waiting...) and that HR apparently applies a special algorithm to notify applicants, that "no news is good news" and by the time they call me things have to proceed at supersonic speed (for them...).

Oblaaspop 24th Jun 2008 18:25

Hey Blue 320, think yourself lucky EK is willing to pay for your travel.

Not so long ago, candidates had to make their own way at their own expense. Think before bleating off and slagging a company that you are trying to get a job with.......

After all, it won't be too difficult for those in recruitment to identify you with you unique travel arrangements and email you claim to have sent.

It appears the company could save itself the time and effort in getting another moaner in the airline (god knows there are enough of those already, without importing newbies!!).

My advice, is think BEFORE opening your trap!!:=

SOPS 25th Jun 2008 01:27

.....and maybe before people post requests such as " will they pay for my future wife to come to the interview??"... they could take the time to read all the information on the EK website, and all the information available on this site.

And remember, as someone else has already said...DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT assume you are coming to a North American situation...and once you have come dont start complaining then, it wont help, and it wont change a thing.

bogeydope 25th Jun 2008 17:50

Oblaaspop,

Get busy with your opblaas pop and take a CHILL pill!!

doz4dllrs 26th Jun 2008 02:13

What's it mean?

I did my interview in early June and as soon as I got home I heard that my references were being checked. But just a few days ago I talked to one of my references and he has not gotten a request from EK.

Any ideas why the would check only 2 of the 3?

Also all three references were from the same company as I have been with them for 8 years. Would that matter?

Thanks for the input.

skmarz 26th Jun 2008 13:44

Are the nterviews completely on hold, or just slowing down the number of them? I already have one scheduleld in September. It was confirmed but not the travel information yet. Just wanted to see if I should not be worrying about setting someone up to watch our kids.

aapa 26th Jun 2008 14:42
