INFO REQ on BAH Accommodation

Have got the possibility of accepting a job offer in BAH. The accommodation allowance is included in the salary package and thus would welcome any insights, web pages etc. to find out more on the availibility, range, standard and cost of such. e.g. What could one get in the 800-1,000 GBP range. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

It depends what you are looking for and whether you are married or single. If you are single and want to live near the watering holes, apartments will cost in the region of BD600 to BD650 for a fully furnished place (exchange rate this morning was BD 0.6110 to the pound). If you are married and would prefer to live out nearer the schools etc then for an unfurnished place, (average nothing fancy) will cost you BD 600 to BD 650.

1) Two year leases...30 days nootice to vacate after one year.

2) Three months advance payable

3) Some leases are "inclusive" of govt tax and electricity

4) Above price ranges are correct..have a look 'round before you sign anything!!!!! Lots of compounds here...

Generally speaking nice houses, maintained by people on very low salaries..so frustrations can arise in this respect...estate agents get paid a percentage based commission..so beware...they are sometimes in cahoots with the owners...and all the agents and owners know what your company's housing allowance is..no secrets here!

Those prices seem a bit high to me. I rented a very nice flat in town ( juffair ) for 400BD inclusive. I moved recently to a great house in town 4 bed 3 bath garden garage for 400 plus bills ( 460 ave on the year ). you need to look around a steer clear of agents who push up pices to get a higher commission. i know lots of GF pilots who live in Budaiya for around 500 inclusive. you can always spend more but its dead money.
