Smile converting in UAE

I have a danish PPL/CPL ME IR and I wish to visit UAE (United Arab Emirates) Dubai. While I am there I wish to fly on my PPL. Does anyone here know the requirements of the UAE civil aviation authorities regarding converting my danish PPL to a UAE PPL.

While I am no expert on PPL conversions, I think that unless you are spending a long time in the UAE, then it would be easier to take a licenced UAE PPL or instructor up with you.
Converting licences in this country is by no means straight forward, I think you could end up spending a lot of time trying and ultimately failing.
Sorry can't be more help.

Geardown 737, 1st thing re a conversion is to ensure your Danish licence and medical are valid. Next is to get the UAE class 3 medical, after that then you go and get familiar with the area and procedures in the plane. Then you study the airlaw for the written conversion exam. After that you do a PPC with an instructor and you then have your licence. I can't remember if you need a valid residents visa or not for the issue of a licence. By the way, you cannot convert your CPL to a CPL because you need a letter from a local company stating you are going to be flying for them. This as you can see, can be time consuming. My advice is if you are only going to be in Dubai a short time, just go flying with an instructor...try Emirates Flying School in Dubai or Fujairah Flying school.

Enjoy the weather.

Hi Geardown 737,

Flatspot is correct on the procedure to convert your license into a UAE one. I just wanted to add the financial side to this.

Medical 1300, AED (400€)
License 1360 AED (420€)
Typical Aircraft+instructor 600 AED/ hr (190€)

So, GA is quite expensive here,
Nevertheless a great place.

Hope it helps,

V1GO
