Kuwait Halts all Pax Flights Until Further Notice

From Fortune:

Kuwait halts commercial flights, closes airport due to coronavirus

Kuwait is largely shutting itself down as the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic continues to spread.

The country has announced plans to halt all commercial flights beginning on Friday, with the exception of cargo flights. As of Wednesday morning, there were 70 people infected with the virus in the country.

Some exceptions will reportedly be made for Kuwaiti nationals attempting to return home.

While it has become common for airlines to cancel flights due to the impact of coronavirus, Kuwait is the first country to take the step of closing its airport. Saudi Arabia, though, did temporarily halt the entry of pilgrims who wanted to visit religious sites.

As is customary, just prior to the announcement of the airport closure by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the DGCA said there was no truth to the rumor.

Kuwait to suspend all commercial flights (Corona Virus)

Coronavirus: Kuwait to suspend all flights from Friday until further notice - Al Arabiya English

"Kuwait will be suspending all commercial flights to and from Kuwait International Airport from Friday until further notice, state news agency KUNA reported."

Is this an over-reaction or will other nations follow quickly now that someone has 'blinked'?

We live in interesting times.

Standby! I see from another thread in the Middle East forum that this is being denied by the Kuwait Aviation Authority.

Apologies for spreading unverified media reports.

One could argue that its a mature response. Another may argue its over-reaction.

Time will tell.
