Question Emirates Hiring Question?

As it seems that several Emirates pilots frequent this forum, I was wondering if anyone knows whether Emirates will consider hiring US citizens with an FAA ATPL license?

I am a US citizen with A320 and A330 type ratings, current in the A330 with about 500 hours in type. Total time is around 8000 hours, most of which is in turbojet aircraft over 60,000 pounds MTOW.

Do any of you Emirates folks know if this would be competitive? Thanks in advance for any info.

Definitely competitive. A friend of mine has just got a start date with similar hours. Command time would be a bonus.

good luck

Thanks for the info, and congrats to your friend. I wish him well at EK.

I've checked out the Emirates web site, and I know that I meet the minimum quals, but with the tough job market these days I am trying to determine if I have at least a realistic chance of an interview. My command time is somewhat lacking, so that may be a problem, but you never know unless you apply.

I unfortunatley don't know any Emirates pilots, and I am curious whether they have hired many (any?) Americans in the past. It is my understanding that my US FAA ATP is acceptable as an ICAO certificate, but I may be mistaken. Does anyone know of any Americans currently flying for Emirates, and if so did they have an EU or JAA ATPL prior to employment.

Thanks in advance for any assistance....

I know a number of guys flying for Emirates, on is an instructor on the B777. He told me that any ATPL is acceptable to the UAE CAA, even the American one. However, everybody, once hired, must go for an Air Law exam and are then awarded a UAE ATPL. As far as I know there are about 5-6 American pilots currently with Emirates and they had FAA licences upon joining.
