And therein lies the rub...How does anyone know that it wasn't partially consumed? It's possible that some Hep-C or tuberculosis laden passenger took a sip and decided they wouldn't finish it, then it gets sent back to be thrown down the sink but because its looks like its never been touched, it goes back into the bottle. Some cabin crew are not renowned for their effective communication skills so you just never know and the company opens itself to the possibility. Some years ago, the crew would dump half full bottle of Dom down the toilet before landing. When asked why they said that it was policy as they couldn't re-cork the bottle. A big waste but it was policy.

Despite the intentions, the optics of this makes the company look bad and as TCAS used to say, "it's all about the perception our passengers have". I always thought that was a very loaded statement, IE: it just has to look good vs actually being good.

In any case, despite the intention of the crew or even that of the service delivery manual, pouring anything back into a bottle is very "sans classe" and adds the aura of "commonality". Not the look they are trying to portray I'd think.

Welcome to todays world. As "Dom don" said, every muppet has a phone these days and will record anything and everything, in some cases for gain. I'll bet that at least 1/4 of the passengers record the landings, take-offs, PA's etc. I say keep the laptops and ban the phones on-board!

Soon the FA's will be equipped with funnels to do the repouring job more nicely and efficiently.
Don't worry EK's First Class will be gone soon too!
TD did for sure a great job!
Hope Skytrax will get to know their drinks saving practices and give them another stunning award!?

Wasn't there another Champagne Video some time back as I remember?
Wait, yes but the brand was Veuve not Dom.

this is how the crew dispose of certain used drinks, most certainly the bottle was binned shortly thereafter..once opened, champagne cannot be "re-corked" and served at a later time..

Not sure what people want doing with trays of drink that are not used - surely it wouldnt be good 'optics' to see a FA walking into the loo with a drinks tray

Now that we have Dom "Rosé" on board, I need to check the label.
Already saw that our coffee is "made for emirates" and comes from Singapore. And to think I thought our old coffee was bad. Probably the worst coffee in the world.

Anybody know if EK came back with the outcome of the investigation that they were doing when media asked for a clarification? Or is this another moment of "let's buy time and sweep everything under the Persian carpet" kind of scenario?

I don't think IBE missed the point at all.

You can't guarantee that glass was untouched with 100% certainty. As I posted earlier, things easily get lost in translation in the cabin with all the differing nationalities and accepted cultural norms. Also keep in mind that those champagne flutes make the rounds in the cabin while the cabin crew is talking to the customers and little bits of spittle is flying around from both the customer and crew member. Then all that goes back into a bottle ready for you next time...yea, I'll take a pass every time!

So LJ, I would ask you, If you were at the doctors office and they needed to take blood, would you insist on seeing the syringe unwrapped before your eyes (as they are supposed to do) OR, would you accept one that had been opened before but not used according to the nurse?

Again its a question of evidence presented and this bodes very poor from an optics and health perspective.

Oh, good god. And how do you think your meal is brought to you, wrapped in a hermetically-sealed container? Do you think it wasn't subjected to exactly the same factors and far worse every step of the way from the catering facility to the cart to your luxuriously linen-draped tray? Give THAT a thought next time that steaming pile of machbous is dropped in front of you.

I don't condone the re-use of champagne or anything else by any means, but it was never remotely demonstrated that that was what was taking place. Just another social media warrior with a mobile, a twitter account, and something to prove.
