That's exactly what they want, they are shrinking the company quickly and they are giving clear signal of this by making employees unhappy and it will get much worse when they'll realize the mistake they did by creating a huge overcapacity with the absurd A380 order since they fly half empty in 70% of the flight.
They just offered unpaid leave for all the summer to the CC.

If we had received pay raises during the booming up years - then ok.
We didn't get any pay raises on the way up but take a cut on the way down.
Those enormous profits and this years PROFIT was built on the back of our hard 90-95+ slog.
Many waited patiently - now that moment has well and truly passed.
But my ire is to those numerous colleagues who are part of the 'don't like it leave' club, sipping bubbly as a single or young un, surrounded by lovelies at the expat brunches: " Life's great, got the car, the condo, the chicks" Breaking out the gel to work a day off because "it's Saigon dude!"
Well I've got news for that bunch - the company heard you load and clear.
Where is A6-xxx now....serving "at the pleasure " of the Co.
Some of us were vocal & im not talking about here...but had little back up.
Que sera sera - hard to believe they only people who received an effective raise were the 'Level 2' new joiners - yet to break a sweat

The most frustrating part is that if you've been in EK over 10 yrs , your "I'm leaving "options are limited. Unless you want to shoot yourself in the foot...
Contract in china/ korea?
Norwegian's ridiculous conditions ?
Jet2/ Jetstar/ Westjet?
Whatever the choice , the disruption &finances will take a greater hit than the pay freeze.

Unpaid leave for non-operational Costa dwellers, no one will feel any difference of them being in Costa or not, but they get the full allowances!
Freighter contract, with supposedly less hours (keep dreaming) for the productive employees, but allowances curtailed.
This just shows where the heads of management are buried in.

Joker,
If you're serious about wanting unpaid leave, resign, one of the option to try and keep you is to offer you unpaid leave, happened to me but I turned it down, a friend of mine accepted it...
A friend who was management pilot for a EU carrier told me that the reality about unpaid leave is that many people say they would take it but when it is actually offered not many end up signing up for it.

Springbok, agree with your comment entirely. It does also come down to one's profile in the company. Had a friend resign early this year and wasn't offered anything to stay, he didn't have the cleanest record in the house!
