EK Pay Review Delay 2017 (Cost Cutting)
Just thought I'd start the ball rolling on the predicted time frame for the "Pay Review Delay Letter" this year.
My best guess is 3pm on May 18th for the "Pay Review is Delayed" letter, but the actual publication of the Pay Review has been so erratic in the last 5 years that it's anybody's guess when THAT gem will be published.
Also might be fun to speculate on what imaginative Cost Cutting contract "Enhancements" we might see ahead? Was the most egregious "Enhancement" of recent lore the DEWA Cap, or was it the raising of the "Productivity Threshold" some years ago? My personal favorite, from the sheer unexpectedness of the move was the withholding of the Step Increase back in 2009.
Aside from an out-and-out Salary Cut (and here, never say "impossible", just look at the Freighter Contract), What kinds of mischief do you all think is going through the minds of the bouncy-castle crowd this week?
Good luck to all of us!

Good week to all,
J
Withholding the step has happened more times than you think. Have a look at your contract adjust letter on HR direct. Go to history, and check how many times you stayed on the same step since 2009. Its costing you thousands of Aed per month.
But as jack has said, the future is clear.

Well, it's out and the answer is... nothing, nada, zero, zip, bugger all. No rise, no increment, no changes to basic or allowances.
Let the mud slinging begin.....
Sluggums beat me to it!

So there you have it. No pay review and no surprises here. They only maid $200 million and change so why honour contractual obligations? To say this place is doomed for is a bit dramatic perhaps but I don't want to hang about to find out!

Well color me surprised at the speed of it! I suppose we are all meant to be "grateful" that we were "spared" from the cost cuttings.
I'll look on the bright side, at least those paying US Taxes won't have to suffer an increased tax payment next year! It's like a kind of bonus, not paying extra taxes! Thanks Management!

Not even the 3% step!
The 3% step doesn't even cost the company anything. Everyone basically moves up and the ones at the top and higher levels leave. What a great way to further enhance recruitment and especially attrition......
Seriously, inflation at high levels and VAT coming shortly at 5%...... good luck keeping a loyal workforce.

When I came, 3 % was written into my contact, in black and white. Simply as, but then when is a contract not a contract? when one side has the arrogance to unilaterally change it, a prerogative we don't have. So they decide to increase the costs of working for Emirates, i.e. Medical fees are passed on to us, the government implements VAT, inflation as always rises, and for us a very clear message and a very real drop in the value of our salary.
In all seriousness when are they going to wake up to the reality of the situation?? More people will leave that they can ill afford to leave, people will and are choosing not to join.
One can only imagine whats next and the lifestyle implications as this one plays out...

Well that was quick and brutal. The thing is they still made a **** tonne of money so this really has nothing to do with this years results but everything to do with what they are forecasting for this coming year.
No profit target being set was a big indicator and now nothing across the entire company - jeez just how much money are they thinking they are going to lose next year??

And people will still work on days off and take training positions where they are only paid for training duties, not given an increased basic salary for joining the training department.
Why help the company in this way and devalue yourself and your profession?

Spikedog, you beat me to it!
People will still work on days off only this time the call will sound like "Captain in light of the financial difficulties we are going through, there will be no day off pay"

Merit pot is how some grades get a pay rise, as not many have the mythical 3% step arrangements.
