Flying in UAE - Abu Dhabi/Dubai

Hi Folks,
I am currently in Abu Dhabi for business right now and will probably get a few days to myself. I have done a quick search on pprune and know there is a flying club in Dubai, I believe this is the only place in the region where you can fly privately, please correct me if I am wrong. I have a JAA-PPL and would like to try flying here if possible, even if it is just a flight along the coast with an instructor. I would be greatful if anyone could give me any up to date info about flying here in the UAE, their experiences and the aero club/flying school at Dubai. Also keen to know the practical differences between flying here and in Europe - I would think the extream heat/humidity this time of year affects aircraft performance and the visibility also looks limited right now.
Thanks in advance, SD.

You could try the Emirates Flying School (Emirates Aeroclub) based beside terminal 2 Dubai International Airport , ph 04 2995155 however there prices are high and I found there attitude was somewhat non productive to a safe flying environment, but you can't take everthing on first impressions. If you just want a quick scenic and to say you have flown in the mid east this could be the place you are looking for as it has location, I checked for you and you are looking at 600.00 dhms per hour for a PA 28-181 or 550.00 dhms for a PA 28-161, (at that price you would expect shares in the aircraft or at least jet time ) . There is another aeroclub in RAK but the location and phone number prove hard to come by. Maybe someone alse can help out there.
Hope you have a good one

I am really just interested in a bit of a bimble around while I am here
I will give them a call - though I will inwardly digest your comments about safety attitude too.

I've flown from the Um Al Quwain ultra light club which is about 1.5 hours drive from Dubai, they operate a number of different types of Aeroprakt aircraft. www.aeroprakt.kiev.ua
Flying down along the coast with the canopy off as the sun set was a truly wonderful experience and cost around 300 dhr per hour.
If this doesnt work out, you could always sit in the Irish Village and have a Guinness or two for me.

Thanks for the replies guys, Unfortunately I didnt get to go flying this weekend.....
For anyone else wanting to fly in Dubai, I think you should know the following, it is unfortunately NOT just a case of ring up, make a booking with an instructor and off you go.
I called the Dubai Emirates Flying School to enquire about taking a flight and was told before I could do this I needed an official pass to fly. This requires a couple of photos and your passport for ID, you take it to the flying school and you get your pass 1-2 WORKING DAYS later, but you need to specify when you want to fly because the pass is valid for that day only for casual flyers - I guess its different if you are doing a course or several flights etc. I guess this may be in response to the events of 9/11, and so I cant knock the security aspect too much, it just hasnt fit in with my work plans too well...
So no luck this time, but if the opportunity comes up during the week sometime I will try it.
