EK Versus BA

Well, bless my soul. I've has been asked by those very nice chaps/esses in DXB to go and have a chat over a few days, regarding employment in Emirates I'm in the VERY fortunate position of flying for BA at the moment, but it's now time to weigh up the pros and cons of each. Ultimately I recognise it will come down to a personal choice and I realise it will involve heaps of coin tossing, but in the meantime I thought I'd start a thread here and maybe get some views and thoughts that I might otherwise not have considered.

Please treat this topic in the way it was meant. Both are good companies and I don't want to descend into a slanging match.

So, BA or EK and why?

Stick with BA because they have a pension and will generally award an annual pay rise.

Hello Pontius,

I have been with EK for almost nine years. Still enjoying my time here, however, I would prefer to be based somewhere else (home) and continue flying for EK. The reason for my statement, is a Family one. Kids getting older, etc....! BA is a National Carrier, and you're at home, where you are king or queen!! Excuse the pun!! Money and benefits with EK are good if you do not live and pay for things in Dubai.

Stick with BA.

Regards

I'm an aussie, and i know we cop some heat for always saying things are better at home. But the fact is most people who have come from a civilised country, will probably want to go back. Probably sooner rather than later. If you already have a job that pays OK, has a union and a good pension plan, then don't throw it away becuse you wont be able to get it back in 10 years time when you are sick of the sandpit.

Stick with BA

Most people seem to work to a five year plan. Not many stay longer than that- not if they have a choice. Look ahead to then. Maybe 'a bird in the hand'........?
EK certainly are going places (pun intended ). Family and their desires are a big (biggest?) factor.
Decisions, decisions.

Mmmmmm Ferris, not sure about that "work to a five year plan" bit as there seems to be no one leaving unless they have to, retirement, medical etc. Very low level of attrition, here in EK, however no doubt more would leave if they could find a good job back home.
Me, after 7 years happier than ever.

Yeah, me happy too. But what I was getting at is the "many would go if they could find a job back home" part. The poster HAS a job back home, hence the 'bird in the hand'..........
