Nov is my top bid month and I am in the top 10% of my bid group.*
I kept my bid simple and only bid destinations , no specific dates.
In return I did not receive one flight which even distantly resembled my bid.
A letter to John A is being composed.

ALLEGEDLY.... the rosters are out within days of the bid close, but the extra week or so is for screw scheduling to manipulate the rosters as they see fit. Even with all the excess bid rules and legalities, a computer can handle something that complex within a day or two.... so it's obvious that the extra time is to make sure we don't get too satisfied.
They are also onto the cabin crew secret roster check as that has now been disabled as well. Back when we could check it, several people I know got exactly what they bid for, but once the roster was "finalized" it did not even closely resemble what we had seen.....
Keep discovering... oh wait...
Hello roster tomorrow... or maybe next week....

By the time everybody cherry picks their flights there is not much left of value anyway. If you do CRS, Auditing, Standards, Recruitment, etc... they can pick any flight they want - doesn't leave many nice trips for line Captains (YYZ is a good example).

5 days OFF, manually inserted handling sim, 10 days leave, just to screw me. had to sit here 5 days to wait of a useless handling sim.
around the 15th the CC can already see the pilots on their flights, the only give us the roster late that the management and trainers cherry pick the flights, old story but will never change, we are in the ME after all.

Back in my country the rosters come out 48 hours before the subsequent month, so I'm not gonna complain now.
Got part of what I bid for. Of course I didn't get the other part, as there are more senior colleagues bidding for it to swap for days off!

Goretex, Trainers rosters are already done by the 5th of the month. Remember when we got rosters on the 16th, and then got a letter from Kevin Bloody Wilson stating that for a short while only, rosters would be delivered late to give the company more commercial flex? Think it was during SARs or one of the Iraq invasions. It does seem to be taking a bit longer than anticipated to return to normal.

Just my 2 fils; I have worked previously with KRONOS Rostering Systems, and they are outstanding. The pre-assignments can be an issue, but when it comes to the big picture, the 2 biggest obstacles to bid awards must be the 15 and 5 day off limits. Being a mixed Short/Medium/Long/Ultra Long Haul Airline, these rules would create havoc with the bid award.
Surely Crew Planning could test the bid assignment without these two rules and compare it against the assignment with these rules. In the event that this is successful there are many ways they could go about retroactively applying these rules post bid award. If it truly was a system issue, KRONOS would be onto it in a flash.
Another thing I think might be impacting rosters is the 120 hour EAST-WEST rule. Great idea, but surely 72 hours would be sufficient, particularly given the extreme time-shifts most of us are familiar with just flying locally.
Maybe this thread would be more suited to the Emirates forum?

Embrace the cabin crew method and start you own Book Face roster swap group. Have had far more success getting swaps off that since many don't even bother with advertising on swap shop any more... I know many pilots are allergic to that site but it does have its uses...
ETA: Scandi, I believe it is already 72hr for the CC...

Part of the reason why they wait till the last moment to publish rosters is for commercial, in case of equipment change. Cabin crew are cross fleet qualified so it doesn't matter for them if there is an equipment change.
Still doesn't excuse the manual insertions in the middle of days off etc.

Jumbo cabin crew are boeing/380 or boeing/330. That excuse don't fly anymore.

I hear you canadansk and GoreTex!
It has gotten out of control with the amount of trips taken by "managers" and training.
Lead by example, go fly that HYD or MLE night turn and stop training to Europe and on ULR's. Surely the average Ryan Air new joiner does not need anymore exposure to Europe!

I'm not a conspiracy theory buff, but...
I see two things happening here, 1st of all there is a clear (and implied) punitive mentality applied to the rosters by those who manually insert or at least advise the rostering officers to manually insert duties, which is a vehicle to push forward point two...
Secondly, I'm now more certain that ever that this is a deliberate tactic designed to cause such a level of frustration with the poor rosters, such that, we will be "grateful" when a much better system of no preferential bidding is imposed.
I'd love to be proved wrong, but I've seen it in too many other circumstances and industries.."hey there's been a big chemical spill killing thousands...lets bury our bad news today.."
Lastly, the issue regarding training is IMHO disingenuous on behalf of the training department, BCN, HAM, and VIE are all terribly complicated destinations, not like those easy CGK, MNL and LOS destinations we go too during the monsoon and wet seasons.
Some of you guys in training ought to be ashamed of yourselves, oh but I forgot, you know more than the rest of us you spoil it for the majority of your colleagues who have in the time I've been here done an excellent job of teaching in a practical and fair minded fashion.

who?
Crikey Croc,
You'd better identify the carrier or else you'll get a smart ass posting like the one from Mana ada from another thread:
Quote:
Sorry if I missed it guys, but what airline are you referring to? Couldn't find it in any of the posts above...
The Ek guys regulary mistake the ME forum for the EK forum. The rest of the pilots manage to put QR, GF, FZ, etc, in the heading, but this is very difficult for some of the EK pilots.
We sure as hell wouldn't want to confuse anyone...now would we?
Really...

Sorry to hear that Goretex. This happening on all fleets or just the boeing?
