Korean Roadshow in Dubai
Korean is coming to Dubai in November to recruit BUT they want it kept quiet so that the spies won't be around. Problem is, how do you inform the pilots when and where without them knowing???

All EK have to do is offer the same type of commuting contracts and they may not have to worry about others poaching their pilots.
On the flip side the EK guys have sold their EK " pilot killing " techniques to KAL and the Korean Admin has lapped it all up. Soon KAL rosters are going to become killer rosters. Those miscreants are bringing their ****ty practices to kimchiland. Good luck HRI denizens!

BB was very open and frank about what the T&Cs are and what was achievable. It looks like a good deal, provided you are on a base that's already open.
Reverse Rostering from the base, the rosters looked very nice, especially on the 60hrs a month contract. The 80 hrs a month were a bit harder.
A330 bases are Melbourne and Brisbane. Auckland and London will be B787 bases, they are offering to convert expats.
On the whole sounds a good deal. Probably not a long term job, but a couple of 3-year contracts might be just right.
Aussie tax a bit of a grey area, some risk associated with that.

Due to work commitments, I wasn't able to get to any of the seminars being held by Tasman Aviation... but, wrt recruitment at China Southern, fwiw I've received the following information from another recruitment agency called AviationCV.com, and one would trust that the requirements listed below are not too dissimilar between the two agencies?!

At a quick count I'd say 40-50 attendees, most of whom like me were there out of interest, or to get info for others.
My read of whats on offer, brilliant for those who have done their 7-10-15 years and are looking for something now the kids are at school at home or at university/college.
For those guys, EK will have a job to hang on to them, all that experience will walk.

All that plus the very generous travel allowance? Gonna take a lot more than that to get guys to walk IMHO...standby economy? 6 tix? Jumpseat? Wow...how fabulous...

Guys keep talking about lifestyle...has anyone seen if there is an insurance package? Or interline agreements? And if the truth is being told about the "ever changing contract" which seems to be the constant complaint of doing business in China, (on a different thread) I would be very wary of what you might actually end up with for T and C's! The 42 days leave you get now, plus your positive space ALT's and the nice seats in business and first class will seem a distant memory once you have been bumped several times and then crammed into the back of the jet just to commute home for your 8 days off, which, if I hear correctly will not be awarded once you are out on the line! I see no mention of any Loss of Licence insurance or health coverage. There is also (new rumour) a USD 20000.00 training bond to prevent all new pilots from jumping ship once the discovery of the truth has been made. Caveat Emptor!

Pilot insurance and loss of license supplied by Tasman. You can get additional insurance for family through EPC AETNA. All in all it was a great turnout. It will be nice to be on a contract from someone who has day to day contact with Chinese management and is actually on the contract himself (starting soon). BB seems to have a very good relationship with the company and was very helpful….

Additional info...
A training bond is correct, but you make $18000 a month….so if you leave that is just a little over a month's pay. You do not have interline travel, for now, but BB is working on it. If you are at home after every trip, there is no need to worry about that. Also, there is some confusion about Air China and China Southern, from what we were told CSA honors the days off you are told you will get. We were shown a typical roster and if you do 60 hours you get at least 10 days off in a row per month. If you do 80, you typically get 5 or 6, if I remember correctly, but again you are home after every flight unless you do a flight from CAN.

Hi all,
I flew with an old guy who tells me there is a new loss of licence about to be launched for all here in the ME. It will be underwritten by Lloyds in the UK and will be based on the UK regs.
Not too sure when it will go live but he implied it would be short term not long term...supposed great for the under 50's expensive for us old farts....
Might be something that those who move on can take with them as its going to be sold locally for worldwide usage....back to resting for me now!!

The kicker for me is that it IS a contract. Any downturn, direction change or political machination and you are out.
I have several friends who were at Sing-air, one of the best ex-pat gigs-right up until they don't need you any more, then the round-eyes are gone.
If it's a case of a few years to finish up and pay off the yacht before hanging it up, great, but if you need another decade plus of income, I'm loath to bail on what's a secure job.
