I may be wrong but I think this is a different scheme. It's a JAA Licensed Ab Initio Pilot Training Programme so I would imagine you'll have to pay for it (unlike the Cadet Programme).

Received in Company email today.
7 months ground school in Dubai, followed by 10 months flight training in Portugal.
No mention about candidates paying, but i'm sure it would come with a hefty training bond. Also, no mention if the package will be the same as F/O or otherwise.

Emirates Aviation College
To assist in meeting the future demand for highly skilled professional airline pilots, Emirates Aviation College is pleased to announce the launch of an Ab Initio pilot training programme (JAA Licensed) in November 2011. The programme will be open to all nationalities.
The college has gathered the necessary tools, skills, support and expertise to offer training to produce the highest quality pilots for the industry. The programme will be delivered in Dubai and in Lisbon, Portugal. The ground school will take place in Dubai for seven months and the flying school will be attended in Lisbon for 10 months.
At the end of their training, cadets will obtain a frozen ATPL licence (theory) and a CPL licence with IR (instrument rating), SE (single engine) and ME (multi engine) ratings, and ICAO Language Proficiency certification. The practical part of the programme will be taught applying airline philosophy and standard operating procedures to assure the best possible training for professional airline pilots.

Sonsal, it is not a cadet scheme. You pay for your training and then try/hope to get a job, just as with any other flying training school.
"job placement is not guaranteed in any airline." seems pretty clear to me.
I'm not really up to date with the cost of flying training but 160,000 USD seems pretty steep to me.

Seems to me it's another programme added to the stable at EAC as a revenue stream, (like the dispatcher & aviation management courses) NOT the 'cadet program' of old where you applied and were accepted into Emirates upon successful passing of the course (as I think still happens with Nationals)
Shame but I never really expected them to open the cadet scheme to non-nationals again, then again I suppose if they are getting really short of pilots in the future maybe they will consider it...
If so there are about half a dozen cabin crew currently flying who should be given places first as they had already passed and were accepted just before EK decided to stop accepting non-nationals onto the cadet courses.

Well they did 3 to 4 years ago as I have met several people who were offered places but for various reasons were postponed, they then stopped accepting non-nationals and so those people never started in the program.
I'm not sure if this was an internal application process or not, as those people I know of were already working for EK, but they were definitely not UAE or GCC nationals.

Could be, we were discussing it on a ULR flight so they could have been talking about Etihad & jetlag might have fuzzed the details a bit... but the crew concerned said EK... *shrug* just sayin' what I was told... 'tis a rumour network after all....

Just to reiterate so we don't launch into a tangent, from what I understand, the course is offered by the Emirates Aviation College in collaboration with Jeppessen, which is part of the Emirates Group but not Emirates Airline. The same college offers degrees in various aviation related courses and even MBA's in collaboration with overseas based Universities at a discount rate to EK employees.

That is correct, once I've re-read it. This is not a cadet scheme, simply a flight school being offered by Emirates. There are fees associated with it. Sorry guys and girls.
