EK and expansion.

Canada says NO .Germany says NO. A domino effect ? Who is next ?

I see more orders than destinations on the horizon.
Interesting to see what will happen.

Not to mention how airports around the world have to be specifically prepared to accomodate the 380 ( and who will fit that bill). I see stormy weather approaching.

I agree with you 4G, they will down play it but commerical must be working over time a the moment. They were the ones that said " give us 20 airplanes and we fill them right away". Once the 380/777 start coming in Aug I can see the 330 being parked and used as required foe new dest.EK will be pushing hard for more seats to India , read 777 to India maybe 380. More MCT/DOH for the 330

Easy answer - lots of places across the African continent being looked at. I would also guess that more destinations in China would be on the cards!!

China won't allow uncontrolled seat dumping. They are VERY PROTECTIONIST as Canada and Germany have recently demonstrated.

What has seat dumping got to do with it? Flights to china are busy with full fares.

It took the LH chief a lot of wining and dining and who knows what else in order to be granted the right to deploy 1 - one - A380 frequency/week on the FRA-PEK sector. And guess what they named that one A380? Hint; it's the only airframe with a city name that's not German... Politics or religion, I don't know which is worse.

We'll see. I still believe their appetites are larger than their stomachs.
There is a word that is not in the vocabulary in these parts and thats
sustainability. I hope for everyones sake that EK's commercial people are as good as everyone says they are . They believe they can do anything and that everything possible. Arrogance or brilliance ? Time will tell. I see the potential for a huge bubble , given the types ( unit size both 777 and 380) ,and infrastructure required at airports ( particulary for the 380) etc. Also the increased protectionism and growing anti EK politics. Its going to get interesting.

On this issue I really would like to be wrong.

Let's see how commercial will do in the real world. Here in the sand they have no unions, no government agency watch dog, no rule of law and of course slave labour with nothing in their contracts that are worthless anyway.
The reason EK does so well is that their labour cost are 13% of budget. There is no other airline with that low of costs. The next closest airline in the top 50 is about 23% of budget.
Yes some big changes are coming to the sand but I have no idea when that time will be.

fg,

I think you are right in terms of growth- access to markets will almost certainly be the limiter top future expansion.

That's not the same thing as a bubble. We make real and enviable profits on the business we do now. If EK just stopped at it's present size it would be a major airline with a long-term profitable business model.

The trick will be to stop when it is as big as it CAN be, not when it as big as the owners would LIKE it to be....

On the topic...

Emirates can silence its jealous rivals by opening up its books to the city. It is probably the only way the critics will ever be silenced. Will these be just words?...

RBS...??

A british semi-bankrupt bank heavily exposed to EK to which they borrowed happily a few billion dollars saying great thing about EK a british "colonial" airline and the A380.
A local web based business newsletter doing the same.
How come I'm not surprised?
They don't go public cause they cannot. They would have to open their books but sorry..no books ,no accounting as intended in civilization. EK is an aviation Ponzi scheme profiting from absence of regulation, rule of law and accountability and exploiting workers to go burst in due time wait and see...
No subsidies? Ah ah ah...what a joke!!
BTW...even the service sucks now a day.. " Fish or chicken siiiiiiiirirrrrrrrrr??? "

"Ponzi scheme" is your new favourite phrase, isn't it Sheiky.

Tell you what, ask your mum what it actually means, then come and explain how a single-owner Airline can be a "Ponzi scheme"....

Well Mr arse, I have for some time now been reading your, how should I say, somewhat negative posts about EK. And believe me I get it but hereīs my question. If EK isn't a the place to be than what is? Turkish? Cathay? Korean? even Ryan?!? You canīt just rant about the down sides of EK and offer no alternative!
Hereīs what I know. I work less, earn more and spend a hell of a lot more time with my family than I did with my previous company so if you have a place for me to go that allows me to spend even more time at home earning even more, than please, do tell.
And let me just take that back, I donīt get it....

I don't think any privately held company has to open its books to the public. No owners other than family and maybe city(is Dubai a public open city or what privately held?)

Don't worry about where or how the expansion will take place. The real stop to expansion is airport capacity for departures and arrivals here in DXB. The local ATC says that it can only plan to increase takeoffs to around 8 or 9 more per hour in the next three to four years. No plans beyond 2014 to increase to more than 41 per hour. Right now it is said the capacity is 31 per hour, and that's squeezing it, given the radar capabilities (hardware and software). PRM approaches could be in the mix in a few years. Maybe tear down Al Qasais for a new runway or something. Maybe if DXB becomes ONLY EK and all others are forced south to Jebel Ali. We'll see.

Bottom line. These airplanes are coming faster than the available solutions to date. Just always plan on K5 on 12R. And it will give you a nice buffer for K1 or K2. Doesn't help a bunch on the Tardi where 10 miles in trail is the rule.

Disclaimer: Actual numbers above may be slightly off, but not the overall restriction coming forth. Perhaps some of the "tower flowers" or approach folks can elaborate better.

I was under the impression this is exactly what it's going to happen. All other flights will go to Al Maktoum Airport, and only Emirates and FlyDubai will operate from/to DXB.
