What would you consider a good salary for a wife to be on?
My wife has a few job options if we decide to make the move and we think the salary’s on offer for her profession are good but hard to gauge if it will be worth it.

On the other hand many organisation right now are cutting costs left, right and centre. Replacing expensive western employees with cheaper ones in every area possible.
A salary that seems good or even amazing to you at home may not go far here when you factor in the cost of living.
As with all the other stuff people are talking about on here, do your research! Speak to people already here.

My misses had job offers before salaries ranged 25-50k depending on accommodation. She is in finance masters in Economics, speaks Arabic.
She didn’t take the positions at the time because I would never have got a flying job then. Now I am in a better position which is why we are considering it.
To Edit. AED a month one job was paying in dollars.

I enjoy living here but I think a lot of people reading that will think “Why on earth come to EK if your wife’s career can bring in that kind of money?” Unless she can only earn good money in Dubai, of course.

My wife was made similar promises of big salaries and career opportunities before we came to Dubai which greatly influenced my decision to move here. All lies of course and when you arrive here the real offers are much much lower and even then they will screw you out of most of that as well. Now she wasted several years trying to build a career that will never exist here. Beware, Dubai isn't the place it used to be for jobs!!

Guys, does anybody know if the 1000 hrs wide body experience for Dec at EK is a must have or it can be superseded by exceeding all other requirements?

I’ve been at the company two years now and the amount of changes in my terms and conditions for the worst, has dramatically affected my opinion of Emirates.
I’m looking at other options now and even a career change because they’ve ruined flying for me so much.
The rumours are true, the company is run by FEAR and INTIMIDATION. Not a safe environment to be operating aeroplanes at max hours per month. The pilots are scared of th management.
We will be the first operator to crash a 380, not because we have the greatest number of 380’s but because of the above.
I would really think twice about coming to Emirates and I’m open to anyone contacting me for other information if you need it.
Sorry to be so negative but it’s the truth and if I was looking at applying I would want everyone to be honest with me.
The moral on the line is super low and the work environment is depressing. A cabin crew member committed suicide because of the changes they’ve made to there contracts. A pilot maybe next.

I don't disagree that a bad event is getting likelier by the day but to put it so absolutely while still flying for them.... got balls or crazy from lack of sleep... or both

Anyone who currently works, or has worked for EK will quickly realize that EK hires globally. At any point in time there will be an airline ceasing operations and its pilots will be looking for work, actually they have been doing this since even before the Ansett days. They also prey on pilots wanting to fly the "biggest and best" in the industry and therefore giving little regard for the lifestyle it affords. It is difficult for those to really know what happens at EK, most applicants see the factuality's of the big shiny airplane, chauffeur drive to work, villa, free power, water and gas to name a few. However, you don't understand the reality until after a couple years pass then you hear the story that IHEK is telling and you hear it a lot these days. The reality of this place has been posted for years and most people will only give a slim regard for what is written here therefor they will keep coming. Hats off to EK, they really don't want you to stay more than 7 - 10 years anyway, you're too old, becoming a health cost and a salary expense. We all know that the reality here is that you will work very hard, be fatigued and walk a very fine line all the while knowing that fate can play a very large role to being terminated even for a relatively small reason.

The EK route structure is varied and can be very challenging - B777 over the N Pole in winter with little diversionary a/fields in case of some citical emergency, just 1 example. Maybe you should all ask yourselves what experience Flag Carriers need for LHS on heavies, and see how relatively low the experience requirements set by EK are.
I would not wish to be a pax with 2 low-level experience guys/girls up the front.
