1 week salary to all QR employees! Profit sharing bonus apparently! Announced today in a memo by the CEO... check your company mail.

It's not much but it has left me pleasantly surprised and that is unusual in QR.

You guys make me laugh. Like if the problem with QR was the pay!!!! I been here long enough to know that when they give with one hand they are taking with the other one.

Let's see what will happen next, not more then 2 days off in a row.

Funny to see how people can easily get lured with... one week bonus...

LADIES and GENTS:
For those of you who seems to have short time memory, tunnel vision and start getting very excited about ..one week bonus ...let me remind you that when we used to get paid for overtime..it used to represent ONE MONTH of extra salary/year!! (not one week)...just for you info.
Days off down route payment taken away...just for your info...
...
I known it's summer time in Doha but please make your math, have a global vision.. and Cool Down!!

senior QR

Guys who are longer over here will remember days when we had 45 days leave and then 3 days where taken , remember A320 special adition on salary ? this was taken away from us as well and please do not forget we use to be payed for off days out of base which was removed by that donky P.M rostering guy + overtime which was taken last 2 year away . Actually they still need to give us provident fond which CEO promised on 2006 meeting as he say next year we would get it , that much about CEO and his plan for future .
What about 3% increament after 5 y ? ha ha so many things to talk about .

Hey guys, I guess because I am new I am not allowed to start a new thread? I tried posting one but it has not showed up, and it's been a week now.

I am got a job offer at Qatar and I am trying to figure out if I should accept. I enjoy a good quality of life at the airline I currently work at, but the money is not that good. So going there would be for the money.

However, how bad is really the A320 and is it really worth exchanging quality of life for more money?

This is what I heard so far about the A320 at QR:

1) average of 8 to 10 days off. And usually 8 days off at base and maybe 2 days off away, that's if you get to do any layovers

2) 12 to 15 hours of duty days regularly?

3) forget about any type of social life for a single guy. first you can't bring a girlfriend over to your place. Second, you are so tired after flying that all you want to do is sleep. And then on your days off there is really nothing to do?

Most my fellow pilots told me to forget about it, that 8 days off only gets old quick. right now I average between 13 to 16 days off.

Also, how are the captains like on the A320? Each airline has it's fair share of jerks, but how are they overall?

Question

What can I say:

QR is not as bad as many people on this forum would like it to appear to be! A320 is a bad fleet as far as the roster patterns are concerned: Plenty of night turn arounds, combined flights, double sector days in 50 degrees heat and so on

The max days OFF you can get these days is 3 in arow. Yes, you will get 8 to 10 days off per month but they will be scatterred all over the month.

Good points about A320 are that the atmosphere on the fleet is nice. Together with the A330 the A320 is the most professional fleet and on the A320 most CAptains are young generation and very laid back. QR A320 has the advantage that it is used as a medium haul fleet they do a lot of European sectors (layover). The mix of A319LR/A320/A321HGW is interesting. The chief pilot is barely noticable and likes operating behind the screens, the FTM320 is one of the best guys around!

This all being said. If you are actually employed by a company offering you a good lifestyle and acceptable salary,WHY would you even consider coming here? Nothing beats living @ home and money is realy NO substitute.

Think carefully my friend.

Think twice before joining ANY expat airline because you will be signing away all your rights!

As Qatari515 said, the life here is much better than many posters on here make it out to be. That said, it is a different life compared to anything I had experienced before. The lifestyle out here is certainly much more work orientated - it is nearly impossible to avoid it being in company accommodation and some of your time off being downroute. Yes; the money is good but there are NO guarantees that once you've settled your loans, collected some savings etc, that you will find another job that will provide your current lifestyle. As you've not mentioned your current type or airline, I can't make a comparison but the right job revolves around your lifestyle. If in a job that you currently enjoy and the money allows you to enjoy your life ... why change it and risk not having it again to save up some money ?

To reiterate Qatari515; think carefully!

Hi Waffels and Qatari515,

thank you for the reply and the advice. My main driving factor to go to the Middle East is not only money, but I also want to fly in that part of the world. Specially Europe, and I also hear that the A320 flies to Moscow as well, and I would love to fly there.

Even though my quality of life is awesome, I am just bored with going to the same places over and over again in the US. I mean, after a while, it's like almost all overnights are starting to mesh together, can't even remember which overnight has what.

How many destinations does the A320 go to? It took for me about 2 years before I went through all the destination we fly to in the US and started to get bored.

so ok, there will be no quality of life, but how is the job? are the destination flown to interesting?

And you guys did not answer one important question, is it true that most of the days are 12 to 15 hours of duty time? Like how many days in the month you have duty days over 12 hours? Because that really gets tiring.

-If you are interesting to fly to India , 320 fleet in Q.R is the best one(NOT Europe). And if you bid for it (indian destinations,) you will get as many as you want, don't worry....
Try to bid for a european destination... good luck..
-So Far 320 flies to around 40 destinations: mainly india, middle east, africa, european destinations on A-320 are: Vienna,Copenhagen,Barcelona,Berlin, Moscow. But don't get too excited, you might not see european destinations on your roster for more than 6 months sometime.
-Some of the destinations we fly are indeed very "interesting..", they do have "interesting" airport- "interesting" ATC- and sometime interesting weather..
-we seldom(almost never) have duty exceeding 12 hours (in normal circumstance..) on A-320.
-But again duty time is not everything: doing a 12h duty shift at day time(2 sectors) maybe less tiring than having tree night shift in a row flying to third world countries Sh.t airport,sh.t ATC....with almost minimum rest in between!(doesn't allow you to recover properly before your next duty..): thats the most tiring think you might experience here sometime in QR IMHO..
-Another Pain in the A.. you might experience here as well are those intra-gulf flight in the middle of the night with 3..4 hours on ground...Long tiring unpaid Duty(ground time).

As said before..A-320 fleet in Q.R. is not the most exciting and paying one, but probably and sometime the most tiring one.

Indeed...think carefully!

I think this thread is diverting from the initial subject: QR Bonus..

Mainly because the 'Bonus' is not considered part of your standard payroll. Finance does however tell us it will be paid on the 31st.

it's no different than any other place I have worked before, Bonuses were never included in normal payroll.
