EY plaza inspections

Guys, I would appreciate some help here coz i think I might be missing something... on the 15th of July some flyers were taped in the elevators of Ey staff complex, stating that inspections by ADDC (dont even know what this stands for) "will require brief access in all apartments to ensure that the water and power meters are functioning correctly. We will attempt to carry out the inspections when you are present, but if a time cannot be fixed, notice will be provided of the intended inspection time" fine so be it, but today after my night duty I went back to my flat in the shiny and state-of-the-art etihad plaza and at 10am in the middle of my sleep I woke up because I heard some noises coming from the living room! I almost grab my baseball bat and open the door of my room and find surprisingly 3 individuals that just broke into my flat saying they were carrying out inspections! Uhhhh????? WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now, I can manage stress pretty well, I can deal with fatigue, I can work my ass out the whole day but this is wwaaaaaayy over the line… this is a serious breach affecting the privacy of the tenants, proof that once again ey mngnt seems not to care about its own employees who make the company run and fill their greedy pockets!! Not only they cut our housing allowance, not only they change the rules now they break into our homes, with our children, wife and loved ones!!!!

Hope You hit a home run and then asked questions?? I would think you need a week off to recover from the trauma.

Don't know what you must have felt, but not surprised this is a company with no freedoms or basic human rights, apparently if you piss management off and they will pull your freedom and you will be restircted from leaving the country! also if you are late back from leave with a valid reason your pay will be with held, happened to one poor sod last month. Illegal but true! So finding folk in your apartment while shocking is i am afraid symptomatic of a corrupt management that have unfettered powers..... the solution leave and tell the world.
Thank God you didn't use the bat no doubt you would have been found at fault, arrested and perhaps be playing hide the soap in some God awful local jail, because if you think you will get any support forget it.

Put a chain on the inside of the door, and turn off the electric door bell.
That will keep the s$ds out of the flat.

The chain is broken, i did try to fix it but the moment you open the door it will brake again... sometimes i think they mounted these lousy chains on purpose!!
now on that bat issue i wouldn't have used it on them (even if they deserved it) but pretty sure my wife would
nways screw them... in this way they are forcing ppl to quit!! and at the end they'll be left with a handful of ****!

These chains don't hold anything. I broke mine by accident myself some time ago: Opened the door while the chain was still on, and SNAP (didn't even feel any resistance!).
I brought a new door lock and a new door chain with me from abroad after that.
Now I rest in the comfort of knowing that nobody else could ever get through my door without taking down the doorframe.

I can really recommend that $200-investment to anybody.

Disregarding the fact that this apartment was entered without the consent of the occupier, has anybody staying in the plaza actually suffered any theft from their premises?? I have always felt safe from this type of crime in the emirates.

From the OP....
ADDC = Abu Dhabi Distribution Company i.e. the electricity utility company. But this sounds like a hell of a way to read the meters !!

Thanks nightfire. I would assume though the Etihad may not be very happy with somebody putting their own locks on the front doors?

This is the first thing that I do when changing accom. I take another lock from inside and change it out, its only 1 screw. I do not trust anyone in this country. As far as the company goes, its your place and your just protecting yourself, them

Nightfire,
the idea of a new door lock sounds great! I might go 2morrow to ACE and c what they have!!
but still like this they are not gonna step into your house when you'll be home but what if you are on a layover or not at home you still cant be 100% sure someone aint braking into your home... next thing we do is bug the place inside out and place tiny web cams in the ventilation shaft !!!!!
geeee this is unbelievable!!!!!!!!

Amberman, that's a pretty negative attitude isnt it? Do you have just cause for that? I always like to give everybody a chance and not go into a place/situation watching my back from day one or am I naive?

**** them... this is what I did....

I won't say where this was, or when it was.. but it did happen.... many moons ago... While coming in from a full standup overnight I found a note on my company provided accomodations stating that the utilities company would be inspecting my appliances etc sometime in the next days... I plastered a note on the outside of the door stating that inspections will only be granted when an appointed is made and I left my telephone numer and the number of my wife. I also stated that any attempts to gain access without prior consent will not be tolerated and is at your own risk.

Later that day while I was in a deep sleep I heard somebody talking in hindi in my room... I thought I was dreaming and then rolled over. The talking stopped and I immediately woke up but did not move initially or open my eyes. The talking resumed... I was scared ****less and decided to wait until they left my room... I knew my wife was out at the beach with the kids... and that made it even more scary...
I slowly opened my eyes and found that they were now in the living room... I grabbed my bamboo cane that I used for night walking and I slipped quietly into the living room and charged the three men that were going through my sports bag and completely surprised them. There was 1 national with two Indian guest workers... the cane left some really nasty slashes on them... and I kept on going.... one bolted to the front door and knocked my wife over as he ran out into the main gang way, the other two were in hot pursuit... in all I was later told while in jail that there were 6 lashes on one fellow, and the other two got 4 each. My 6'5" frame gave me the edge.... I spent 4 days in jail... and my wife had to go to the hospital. Thank goodnes she was okay... the three little bastards got stiches and were lucky to come out of my apartment alive. When asked by the police what happened I explained myself and told the truth... and sure enough the little bastards started lying and telling all sorts of ****e... but lucky for me, my wife came home early and she had been accompanied by her friend and her husband who happen to be pretty high up locals who witnessed almost the entire thing... and also spoke the truth. I was warned by the poilce chief that if this ever happens again I will be severly handled... and I retorted that if this ever happens again, nationals or not he will be collecting bodies in my apartment, or the left hands of the little brownies.... it never happened again and I was reinstated. After returning home my wife and I found that her rings were missing that we stored in a glass bowl next the the sink in the main bathroom... and also some cash that I had left in my pilot bag so I reported the thefts and a few days later a police officer came by and without saying a word handed me a small bag with everything in it that had been taken....
My wife and I never felt safe anymore so I picked up some new locks in Sweden and changed them out myself as well as adding a closed circuit camera that takes a photo of the main door everytime it is opened..... one week later the main building manager who is a national came to me and asked why our door locks are changed... I asked him how he knew that they had been changed... and he got silent and I was called later by the HR dept to explain myself.... which I did... this went as far as the CP... who told me that if I don't change the locks back I can leave... so we did and I have never looked back... the only ****e thing was that I was kept on simulator duty until I left... when I asked around why that was... I was told unofficilly that the last pricks who announced their leave and were leaving in a scuffle with the management were no longer trusted because others had done thigns to cause damage to the company aircraft before they left....
So, what did I learn in all of this... don't trust anybody, you are a slave to the company and the face it carries, the system leaves you in a second class position without help, you are reliant on their mercy, and you are not allowed to defend yourself.... I also remember telling the CP who was also a national how he would feel getting the same thing happen to him while on a layover in England in his hotel room.....

You are nothing but a worker that has to leave the luxuries of home behind.... either enjoy it or not... we enjoyed every minute of it until this happened....

I still subscribe to the notion that if some prick comes into my home without beig invited he will leave either dead, left hand missing or in severe pain.... so don't hesitate to use the baseball bat next time some national or Indian comes into your accomodation unannounced....
Kill them if you have to....... but don't trust a single one of this shifty eyed bastards....
