Hope not, it made a lot of sense.
Much easier to train a guy with 2.5K flying large, EFIS jets for a decent airline than someone with 4000hrs on 727 frieghters in the back-woods.

Spot on Wiz!
I fully agree with the new criteria. I think a 25 year old chap who went through Oxford and then went straight to Easy on an A320 for 2500 hours would be a far better prospect than some of the dross that has been applying in recent times.
Now hopefully they will even look at bringing in young turbo-prop guys to sit as cruise pilots for a couple of years....... Should've happened a long time ago!

Easier to train yes but why would a guy with 2.5k hrs flying large EFIS jets for a decent airline want to join EK? Can well understand someone on 727 freighters in the back-woods wanting to join if one can believe half of what one hears about EK.

Hey guys
i had an argument with a friend of mine the other day about joining EK,apparently he got a letter telling me to get his ATPL befor his application is further processed,he's seating around 7000 hours but mainly on props and 737-200 but has no experience on Glass cockpit,is that possible with these details to join EK?

Millerscourt.
Why?
Mmm, lets see:
1) Financially Secure airline with huge expansion plans.
2) New modern fleet, well maintained.
3) Generally high standard of free accomodation.
4) All utilities covered unless you keep an air conditioned shed and a 30 ft pool.
5) Tax free salary and currently strong dollar. (at least 50% better off now than my comparable colleagues from previous Company)
6) Transport to and from work. Whatever people say, it's like gold dust after an all nighter.
7) Great route structure and increasing variation of destinations. (Unless you're on the Airbus)
8) A 6% pay rise. Not great but better than -6% like BA.
9) 3 Weeks profit share. Again, not great but better than I ever had with my last airline.
10) Mostly a great bunch of people to work with. Pilots, CC and engineers.
11) Dubai. Not everyones cup of tea but far far worse places to live and bring up a family. Apart from the roads, I can't think of much safer places.
12) Petrol. A quarter the price of Europe.
13) EPC (Emirates Pilot's Club). A great bunch of guys running a great club with access to 5 star hotels, beaches, gyms and great discounts.
14) Sunshine most of the year. Knock it as a reason, maybe, but when you come from rain and cloud most of the year, it works for me and my family.
15) Peace of mind that i'm not subsidizing some militant economic migrant from some !!!!hole who demands human rights and free housing when he turns up on my countries doorstep. Along with 300,000 of his mates each year!
16) Great school for my kids. Class size of 21 with high standard of education and discipline. Mostly free.
Of course, those are the reasons why I came. But with a previous command and over 7000 hours at the time, mostly EFIS, people like you must have thought I was mad.
For some people, jealousy can be a bitter pill to swallow.

I am sure BYMONEK will get flamed by the usual culprits however I agree with alot of what he says. EK is not perfect but there are far far worse jobs out there.
Taking young pilots with 2500 hours on 737/320 types is in my opinion a huge step in the right direction.

BY well Orion you were probably my F/O once!!
MON ?
EK now
I did say if you believe half of what one hears about EK
As you had a previous command then you no doubt joined at the right time.
Jealous? Not me! Turned down by EK which is the more usual response from some? Not me as never applied and although I did consider it once when you got some of our (SQ) A340-300's and when still current on type before going on the B744 the T & C's were not good enough to make me want to return to the Gulf region being an ex B767 Captain with GF. Does that answer your question?
PS I agree with all you say re your home country (UK) but where will your offspring end up after this first class education in Dubai? Probably back in the UK you despise ( and me too!!) The rest of Euroland is just as bad.

You still lurking on these ME forums?
What is about EK that sticks in your throat so much............ah, yep, that's it YOU WERE FIRED YOU LOSER!
Anyway, nice to see your post is up to its usual low standard. Your temperature gauge must need adjusting on your toyota echo mate cause I thought it sometimes went that hot for 3 months of the year, not nine.
Still, reminded me of what my wife said to me last night in bed; "bloody hell, it's massive!" I just love it when people exaggerate.
As BYMONEK said, jealousy can be a bitter pill to swallow!

Hey Arseysheik, please could you forward me the details of the airline which offers 10% of the things you mention.. I mean just the stable job with predictable roster part sounds great! Ill forward my CV to you, perhaps you could put in a good word for me as you seem very worldly wise on all matters aviation. Thanks buddy.
Incidentally, have you ever actually been to Dubai? "45-50c for 9 months of the year"???? What planet are you on?

That's a somewhat toned down post to the first.
Firstly, my reasons for coming here were many. Like yourself going to SQ, I could not live in Singapore, neither HK for that matter but I don't knock people who do. There are many on these forums who do bash Dubai and EK. Whilst neither are perfect, they are the best choice for my circumstances. As you also correctly pointed out, timing was everything.
You are right to correct me on your statement about believing half of what you say. I was just showing what the other half was. Like sheikmyarse, if anything positive is said, they are quick to dissmiss it, normally with a vitriolic outburst. In their case, jealousy is often the rationale for their one sided view. I wasn't insinuating you fell into that camp, honest!
The UK has been a mess for the last 12 years plus and hasn't got better. Maybe a new government may turn things round but until that happens, I shall stay here. The children? Well, that will be something they will have to decide later. However, if current discussions are anything to go by, it will not be the UK that they will be returning to.
As for being your F/O..........................well, only if it wasn't in a 'brown' uniform!
Enjoy the heatwave.
