Child seating. UAE to Europe and back.

Hello chaps etc

I posted this initially in the Cabin Crew area but no joy....

I have heard a rumour that Flying from Dubai (Or Abu Dhabi) to European destinations and back, you are able to take a child safety seat from a car, belt it onto a seat in the aircraft and put the child in that. Is this inded true? Is it true in both directions? Is it the case for all or just some airlines or none at all?

I believe you can with EK. I think its in Y class only and the car seat must be to the "care" standard.

Thanks Don. When I heard it I nearly jumped for joy at the thought of being able to ditch the infant lap belt. Sounded to good to be true though.

This is Etihad's policy regarding Car Seats:

Acceptance of Car-type Seats

Passengers travelling with children (over 6 months and up to 36 months) may use their own car-type seats in conjunction with a normal aircraft seat when the appropriate child fare has been purchased. The car-type seat can be used for take-off, cruise and landing and must meet the following standards:
1. Must be a forward facing type with the proper harness that can be strapped to a passenger seat by the use of a lap belt only.
2. Must be in good condition, solid back (no recline facility) and show no signs of damage.
3. Must have a single release type harness which secures the infants lap, shoulders and torso.

The following car seats are permitted in the aircraft:
1. Australian Standard Sticker attached AS 1754
2. US Standard FMVSS213
3. Canadian Seats to conform to CMVSS 213
4. European Seats conform to Euro Standards ECE-44
5. German qualification procedure for Child Restraint System for use in aircraft

A380-800 Driver

You forgot to add one very important point. they need to be buckled up in the BACK OF THE CAR! Strapping them in with you in the drivers seat doesn't count.
