And it won't just be expats, if my experience in that dump holds true to form!

I reckon that if liquor permits aren't available in Doha anymore then the Emir's going to be snowed under with applications to replace the idiot diplomat that was recently recalled from the US posting because of his mind-numbing stupidity of doing what he wanted when he wanted despite it being illegal.

Nothing strange about encountering that sort of behaviour if you've done time in Qatar, I'm sorry to say.

A few weeks ago they had signs up temporarily suspending new applications - could that be what you're referring to? It seems that some of our less well paid worker friends were using their permits to buy booze and then sell on the ever-popular black market, hence the short term crackdown. Business as usual now; (I think) this is old news.

As SpamCanDriver says, this is too good a money spinner for them to put a lid on. If it IS true, it will spark more of a rebellion than any three day rule ever could...

I agree, they would close the only profitable part of the QR group. But then again, they don't really care about money.

If they don't issue liquor permits anymore, I'm sure we all will eventually leave sooner than expected.

There is so little to do here and it is so boring that people past time is to spread baseless rumour.
Guys get a life, go somewhere else during your days off to have a taste of normality. Oh yeah that's right not allowed
