Visit to Doha

Probably not the right place to put this request but here goes,

I am visiting Doha next week on a fact finding mission in case I am selected to join a middle east airline in the near future.
Could anyone please advise me:

a. Where in the city is a good location to stay
b. Which hotel with a beach club
c. Places of interest to visit

I have not managed to find a contact at the airline who can show us around. Please help.

Good idea Mars Bar.

I have thought about doing the very same thing, but am waiting on a job offer before I head out there!

All the best,
BB

Hi there,

if you would like Beach hotels, I suggest staying in For Seasons (the best with a beach), Intercontinental, Marriott, Sharq Village, and Sheraton)

Places to visit:

Souq Wakif (definetly a good place to go)
Villagio Mall
Aspire Zone (lovely park)
City Center Mall/Landmark

Have fun!

Mars Bar

to add to QatarA340's list. The W, Moevenpick, (no beach at either) other than that, not much to see and do here, as already mentioned, the Malls, the Souq is unique and worth a visit. thats day 1

as for day 2 have a look at the links

YouTube - Spotlight on Doha

also you can go Dune Bashing for a day out with a local tour operator.. it is fun, but after a few years it gets old.. but it is fun.

Here's another youtube video illustrating some of the favourite local "culture" to be found in these parts...

Enjoy the roads, MarsBar.

The way somebody drives tells you a lot of think about his/her personnality.., and is nothing but the tip of the iceberg here, showing that a lot of people here remains uneducated & selfish & arrogant & uncivilised.

Using that logic, those that insist on driving on the left hand side of the road would be backward.?

Maybe you're on to something.

Nah, just another piece of whiny drivel. I believe I'll have a piece of Stilton with that w(h)ine. What say you?

You could also make a visit to the Pearl. I have not ventured up there myself yet but it looks a nice place. You should see the main sites within a few days. Most of the hotels are quite central and taxis are fairly reasonable in cost. Not sure if your already in the airline industry but you maybe able to get a staff discount at some of the hotels. The best option is to contact the hotel direct reservation offices or shop around on the internet.
