If one does his sums correctly (and ignoring the fact that the policy steps all over the present First Officers...whom should have known upon joining that this was likely to happen...and if not, tough luck) that the policy of hiring direct entry Captains is more cost effective than otherwise.
Provided of course that these DEC's are current and qualified on present equipment.
Proven at other airlines time and time again.
Sorry, them's the facts, like it or not.

EK will take as many DEC's as they can get to reduce training costs, I said that 5 years ago, nobody believed me, EK will continue to do that.

no airline in the world will give you a widebody command unless you have a few thousand hours of right seat time in a widebody, if you think you come from a small jet and get a widebody command after 3 years you need a reality check.

And if I already had 4000 hs in a different widebody type + 3500 hs narrow body with a total of 9000 hs before joining????

Your post is pointless once that most of the F/O have more than 3000 hs in widebody ACFT (maybe not in EK type).

Maybe, it is you who need a reality check!

Makes absolutely no difference whatsoever...the company sets the policy, the pilots comply...or find somewhere else to work.
IF someone believed the BS that was touted at recruitment...sorry, not applicable.
An old middle east saying...'join at the intended/desired position, not what is promised.'

Knowing some Ex Ryanair guys joined 3 years ago, after 6 months they were on B777 left seat my friend.
They fly very well still and even better than some.
Not as mad as you mention.
By the way, hum hum who decided to put them on the left seat ?
Eh voila !
Who does need medical assistance ?

I think that's my favorite joke, the 28 year old ex training captain at Ryan Air that comes here and becomes accelerated into the left seat of a 777 at 30 years old ! Based on his vast worldly experience....Ha ha. joke.

411A, I understand what you said, however my post was in response to GoreTex who said that no airline in the world will give a command to a F/O unless he has a few thousand hours in a widebody aicraft. The majority (not all) of the F/O who have been been here for more than 3 years, have more than 3000 Hs in widebody (just not on type).

EK contacted me today.

DEC conditions have changed.

More notice later this week, they said.

They said they're increasing the hours required, that's all.

So yeah, they're most definitely going to continue hiring to the left seat.

How long is it going to take them to once again break their own policy, of time on an aircraft of the type that EK operates, for DEC's while still requiring it of their F/O's?
AAR stood on the stage at the training center auditorium and stated that EK was going to take DEC with at least 3000 hours command experience on EK type aircraft, almost the next day they hired DECs qualified on B737 or A320 aircraft types.
No doubt they'll get a few people from the likes of BA, who nearing retirement and being told all kinds of good things by their former collegue TCAS, will be silly enough to come here.
Most of the potential widebody qualified new DEC's have been use to being treated in a certain way and won't find EK's lack of respect, constantly changing terms and conditions while inexperienced desk bound managers constantly second guess their every decision, palatable. Not to mention being gobbsmacked when Flight Attendants tell tales of any and every perveived misdemeanor and are taken seriously by the said managers.
As soon as one of these guys acts like a Captain, it won't take EK long to put a head on a spike as a warning. Thus sending out a message on how they are expected to behave here!
Having said all of this, I personally don't disagree with the hire of DEC's. It's the way that EK constantly drops the sorting bar when the qualifications of the available candidates no longer meets EK previously required standards that I find gauling!
EK will stick hard to this new policy, right up to the time that it doesn't suit them anymore and once again it will change.

Ask them which rooms EK is using for pilot recruitment.
Do this every day (not weekends) until 26 August.

Phone sim eng, ask them which sims are booked for recruitment.

Then we talk again.

The chaps from "The Speedbird" did not tend to cope terribly well with the recruitment process in the last DEC drive from what I recall, hence only the handful who currently grace the left seat of our 777s. They tended to fall down on adaptability issuses probably as a result of having worked in a mono cultural environment for the majority of their careers.

Excellent pilots I am sure but mabe a bit of a struggle to adapt to the over cautious, rigidly S.O.P. driven, a_se covering, culture at EK.

Whilst I wholeheartedly disagree with the policy , if we are going to have DECs thrust upon us I would rather they came from the likes of BA beacuse they will ultimately prove to be a thorn in TCAS side. There are very few BA pilots who will put up with the kind of bullsh*t that we have to without raising hell. Bring them on I say.

a few "yes", most "no"

the last few years they hired lots of guys without wide body long haul experience.

anyway, 411 is spot on never believe anything what you hear during an interview in the middle east.
you should have read pprune 5 years ago or done your home work.

Anyone who thinks DECs are something new to EK need only look to the sticky at the very top of the Middle East page. I'll save you the clicking required by quoting the pertinent passage:

At least now they put them through an sim and an interview. At the time that was written, they interviewed them over the phone - I kid you not - and any FO who was around at the time will tell you that we certainly got a few of the Parker bin Pehn tribe among those that arrived. Who could forget Terry's good mate Erwin?
