QR Question

Good day gentlemen,
I知 new on PPRUNE and I壇 like to have your opinions. My company is on serious financial difficulties and they are laying off pilots. I値l be one of those. I知 seriously looking at Qatar Airways as an option since I met the minimum requirements. I have 6,500 hours total time and of those around 90% are on jets and approximately 2,200 hours as a Captain on A320. What do you think would be my chances in getting a DEC job with QR? What kind of real benefits can expect beside salary (I used search function to find the figures for salary)?

Benefits in QR ? dont think so
You have 6500 total and requirements are 7000 fro DEC . But you can apply as F/O if you are jobless .
Benefits in QR are just being reduced and removed . ( hotels reduced from 5 star to 3 star ,money is less as Qatar has inflation of 5 % /year and last 3 y no salary increase . You can lose job over mistake ( remember a Capt who eat on ground in Doha and has been seen by small man )
A320 roster in QA is good if you want to die early as a normal person can not take it .

Benefit...?: free laundry for your uniform... that's it...
(no pension-no bonus, a small increase of your basic(..3%) but only for the fist 4 years in your respective grade.,and a thiny end of service benefit).
Minimum requirement for Cpt is 6000H,not 7000H.

To make it simple&short:
-F/O salary:....8000..U$/month (including flying alowance).
-Cpt salary:....11000...U$/month .(including flying allowanve)
+ QR accomodation.
-42 days leave/year... if you get it..sometime you have to "fight" for it.

As mentioned above:A-320 roster:the worst in QR and the most demanding&dangerous roster pattern!(you will have the lovely privilege of flying to Sh.t airports & sh.t ATC & sh.t weather.)
At least the aircrafts are Good.

thanks for the information. what is the housing allowance on top of the $11,000US if you have your own place?

how far can this money go in qatar? ie whats the saving power for an average household?

-Capt housing allowance :12000qr/month (3300U$), not enough to rent a decent villa here in Doha today, enough for a nice 2-3 bed room flat with faciliites(recommanded here excpecially if you have family!) :gym,pool....(unless you are single and willing to share a villa with some colleagues..).
-F/O housing allowance:10000QR/month: (2800U$).

But i think you have no choice right now, you have to take company accomodation.(no 100% sure).
Next month new Housing policy is supposed to be announced...
Let's wait and see for the surprise..!

Oh i forgot;another option,..you can always Buy a 2 bedroom flat on the "pearl" for just...500.000 U$ ..(after discount)..!

Sorry i have NO time to smell roses in dusty Doha due to my great roster double sectors or land at morning departing same night with 12 h rest and doing cat C airports with minimum rest .
I just try to smell other airlines before Qatari roses .
Phantom Driver you must be a management pilot or on of s/n 20 000 and above which still live in pink world getting Airbus rating after Md 80 or Dc9.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I am far away from dusty Doha, as you can see from my location.However, QR is my preferred carrier as SLF, and I think the guys and gals in the cabin do a great job, as do the guys hidden up front there behind those locked doors.

Just a pity to think there may be festering sores that may stand in the way of professional conduct of flying duties.Yes, I know, you are not supposed to bring personal problems into the cockpit, but that is easier said than done, and nobody needs that.

The website career section states the minimum for Captain as 6,000 hours total, thats why I said I have de minimum.

WOW you have 6500 maybe you can apply for SVPNO B.W position he also had 6500 h when he got a job but he will be removed soon .

Go ahead QA need naive people who will be happy first 6 months . I know a lot of them first its all good after 6 months complaints start but then they have car loan already and kids go to school so its hard to move and they start to hope for better days. Thats how QR get people in . On intervew they dont say the restrictions or bad example as roster and salary decrease with inflation or they dont tell you that what ever policy is now might be changed in 10 days and you will be informed but you cant do anything even in contract is stated different you still must take it or resign .
I remember days when i was told on intervew 1 y to command then i got a job and in 20 days it was changed to 3 y so i got stuck 4 y total . My friends arranged them self life with or without house and now they will change it again
you come on A320 count 4 y minimum as per now to transfer to any fleet and it might be no transfere if you have warning letter or you get 3 on LPC /OPC SIM check .
There are many ways to fall into QR trap .
Do not tell people did not tell you what to expect .
And you know why is like that ?
In QR any CP,CT,CT has endurance of 2 y or less subject to 9 floor approval.
Why he should do anything for you and me ? He need to take type ratings for him self for time when he is terminate to find him self job easy. Look at ex CT rated on A320 but he gets DEC 330 look SVPNO B.W same story look at all ex CP a 320 all got A330 /340 . But roster is still bad people run away without proper resignation but thats not important as him getting w/b first.

QR United,

Can you give me an example of some of your rosters that you dislike? How about a normal trip or one that you hate the most? Will you go to the 777 or A330? Have people been hired dircetly onto the 777 or 330? Cheers. DD

Roster

I will not go to A330 nighter to B777 dut to my CP who did transfere 1 Capt in last 6 months to 777 and 0 to A330 . A 320 has about 125 Capt and if you come now you are N 126 Capt with rate of 1 in 6 months you can guess when you will transfere to any fleet .

Roster : DOH-IKA-DOH landing at 0600 next departure at same night DOH-HYD-DOH landing at 0600 same night DOH-KHI-DOH landing at 0600 departing same evning DOH-KWI ( 3 h on ground) -DOH landing at 0600 same night you do DOH-COK-DOH ...... and it can be continued . It can last from minimum 3-4 days to 6 days . Roster play with rules of local time and night and day as there is time difference in India so they use that .

Block time 81h Duty time 150 h .
Days off 7/month just to survive .
A320 big NO NO NO fleet . If you offered A320 say no . We have Captians on A320 4 years and every month they tell them next month is selection for fleet transfere. Or A 320 is short so sorry yopu have to wait when we get more pilots . A320 been short for last 5 y why should somthing change from now ?

Are there any good A320 flights to Europe (Wein) or some to Male? Who gets those trips?

Good flights:

VIE
ARN
TXL
GVA (some 320)
ZRH (Idem)
MXP (Idem)
DME (till oct)
MLE
SEZ
NBO
DAR

Who gets these flights? All in all we used to get one EU flight/month. Usually one NBO or DAR.

Nowadays Carmen decides on all that. This month the senior guys got all the good flights and the others where left out.(first month Carmen was active, so she had only seniority to take into account) Normally next month this should be the opposite as Carmen looks at the satisfaction levels in general.

A320 is difficult as many of the good flights are shared with the A330. A320 steps in when loads go down so at the last moment.

In general we all have one really bad week / month!

A320 off days

There is a memo issued by famues CP a320 . A320 can not accomodate any slot off days ( 4 days off as before ) as A320 has increased training and new pilots etc...

Anyone know about new restrictions for flight deck ?

There are some changes some more items are not alowed fro flight deck .

ONE europe flight/month!!!!!??
Either you must be joking or must be very "lucky"!
For some of us the standard is one europe flight every 5..6 month.
