Freedom of Choice

You got to love it!

The UAE has recently passed a law restricting the provision of oral contraceptives to women without the consent of both husband and wife. This consent must be obtained by the prescribing physician in writing. To conform with this new requirement, the Clinic will ask both spouses to complete and sign a contraceptive approval form prior to the provision of the next prescription refill.

Please note that the provision of contraceptives to unmarried women is not permitted in the UAE.

Does a woman get arrested for having them in her possession without a husband's consent? Does this make the pill fall under illegal substances with associated penalties?

I'm not quite sure of the logic in allowing an unmarried man to procure contraceptives. Seems he now has to chose between the crime passion with a married woman or an unmarried one.

Seems we may be in for a baby boom!
