Have a number of mates with bikes here, Pan europeans, BMW1200 big trailie, Goldwings etc.

Bikes are a great way of getting through the jams just got evaluate if saving a few mins is worth the risk.

(The Harley Club is there if you like hanging around with guys dressed up to go to the "Blue Oyster Bar" a bit like Daytona Bike Week with all the lawyers and dentists dressed up as Hells Angels!)

I ride here, mainly to work which isn`t the most interesting route on a sportsbike. Avoiding the traffic jams and speed cameras and arriving with a big smile on my face make putting up with the homicidal driving style of almost everyone.
The best place to ride is Dubai Autodrome, track days are about 600dhs i think. Check out dubaipetrolheads website you`ll meet up with some really great guys out here on two wheels!!

There is also an active racing club up at the Dubai autodrome. It's a mixture of some very good expat riders some pro riders over for vacation/testing and some wobbly locals, actually there are one or two locals who are very fast. Some very nice looking very fast bikes. They have their own race calendar and trophy series.

Just my five cents worth. Have two bikes, one for the road and one for the desert. Off road bikes are great and you only have yourself to blame if you come a cropper in them there dunes. As for the road, LR3 is right in saying that its a bit dangerous but for me, it beats the sh1t out of waiting in a traffic jam which is very frustrating. I use the road bike to get to places like the company HQ which is located right in the middle of a traffic war zone, going to other places in the city or other hard to park places. You do get used to the crazy driving but ride aggressively rather than defensively!! After a while you will be filtering through city and highway traffic without too many problems. One piece of advice though.....don't buy a big bike for the road as they do not filter well, is heavy to steer around traffic and hard to get up and down pavements! Ideal bike would be something like a Kawasaki Z750/Z1000 or KLR650, a super motard KTM or Yamaha Fazer 600 or 1000. Good luck and be safe.

Fatigueflyer is exactly right, the bike makes it alot easier getting where you're going faster, avoiding most of the pinheads

...just make sure your pipes are loud enough so you are noticed over the latest arabic hit blaring out of the local's loudspeakers!
BTW a hand held RPG would come handy if you have to deal with an aggressive 4x4
Wish all the future organ donors good luck!
I sold my XV1600 b4 coming here to keep my limbs in the present condition/location, and yes I know, I am a sissy!

Wouldn't bother shipping anything in it's not worth the hassle or the waste of good money. Wait till you get out here and have alook around first. You've already found through this forum that bikes do exist in the UAE take it easy settle in look around and you'll find something here that will suit your needs no doubt.

Remember if you have a spill here you won't get the same emergency response that you'd get back home, if and when an ambulance arrives you won't find it manned by highly trained paramedics, you're on your own till they get you to hospital! You'll get a big crowd though but they'll just stand around admiring the scene! Whenever you throw your leg over your trusty stead here just think MAD MAX!

Hey Trimotor,

Yes its an RC30, probably the only one in Dubai and possibly one of the few used as an every day ride. Most are stored or treated like museum pieces but they weren`t built to stand still. There`s no point having a 30 and not riding it!!

Been riding for years in North America! Its been challenging here to say the least. The trick is to stay away from ALL cabs and always expect them to hit you! As for the locals they like to do MACH 2 but generally stay in the far left lanes. Fri and Sat morns and great driving days.

As for the experience there are alot of great rides in the UAE. Twisties in the mountains, cruising the beaches and just cruising the super strips!

The HOG and various MC clubs are great and have weekly rides. Good Luck

Drive it like ya Stole it!!!

Get into quad bikes for fun in the sand ..not as far to fall off! Problem in UAE is the roads are far too straight and boring, so the harley guys are happy and the sports bike guys ride to Al Ain to ride up and down Hafeet and the only piece of twisty road in the UAE!

I did the UAE to Salalah (Oman) run once, long hot and dusty and a bit of scenery but pretty boring to be honest.

Kempilot it is typical on any thread someone has to go off on a tangent and provides no useful information to you. I am not sure about the roads in Abu D. but the one good thing in Dubai is that there are very few intersections, comparative to other cities. So more dangerous drivers here, but most of the time they are moving in the same direction as you. Not too many people making left turns in front of you.
Good luck

Wonder what your ride is calcio.

Maybe you're one of those righteous bro's that wake me up each and every Friday morning at around 0730 blatting out for the HOG weekly rideout to the mountains. Really cool in a pilots family neighborhood.

Potato, potato.
