GF Looking at A340-600
Being reported today in Aviation Daily that GF is about to order 8 A340-600's to use on existing long haul routes plus open up new destinations in US and Canada.

As an aircraft it is piece of crap... All agree... But GF they need more aircrafts for the time being, to meet the demand...
New destinations!! for the same number of aircrafts... How? .. most probably a lot of cancellations in the summer.

That isn't entirely true IB..it stinks cause it burns so much fuel. Even if you get the damn thing for free it will kill you in the fuel costs to run it vs the payload.

They had better use her properly then hey. Keep it on the routes best suited for it and market the hell out of that route to keep it full. Ah Shangai looks like the perfect candidate.

Everyone says this a/c burns so much fuel, but does it burn more than a 744? I doubt it, and plenty of those still flying. I heard the A346 also had serious tech issues.

well at 250M for 340 and 420M+ for the 777 its only a question of how much your fuel is discount.
Having flying both well both AC are fine from the cockpit point of view

Both 500 and 600 are nice to fly, but different in their own ways, very different!
The problem with the 500 is that when it takes-off, the price of oil is $50 per barrel and it only lands again when the price it $150 per barrel! Talk about range!

Perhaps GF could take-on the A346's that are rumoured to be coming available next door! I am sure the new Oryx Leasing Company would do a very good deal for GF............

With a number of airlines loosing their shirts or selling everything up to and including office furniture at bargain basement prices, there should be a number of decent airplanes coming up available for GF and other airlines . . . if only we can react at industry speed to these offers. That should keep us from being captive customers to ex-RJ crap.
