Eye Test
I just went to get my medical done 2 weeks ago, and had to go to an eye
doctor within the same clinic where I am suppose to do my medical, the
eye doctor was checking the thickness of my glasses,...looking into my
eyes with his microscope (don't know the proper name) doing all kinds of
things on me, just because I have to wear glasses for flying...!!!! I founded it
weird since it was the first time for me having to go through this,
so asked to see the CARS, and yes under the new CARS I am suppose to
go through eye examination every year prior to renewing my medical
since I wear glasses for commercial flying. What a bummer!!!

Lasik
What does the CAR's and the GCAA say about Lasik or any eye operations?
I thought it was a big no-no or if you did do it you would be without medical for a year. A new medical would then be issued only if you passed some special blinding test or what not...
Thanks,
LJ

Eye Test
Guys,.....I just want to make sure I understand you correctly for a person
that has to wear glasses for flying under the new GCAA rules they don't
have to do an eye test annually with their medical?? Just confirm!! If so
this is another wonderful rule by the GCAA.........man o man I wonder
who comes up with all these wonderful ideas!!!
By the way is their place in UAE (DXB) where you can do LASIK, and
what sort of cost involved?

Wife got hers done at Atlanta Vision Clinic in Beach Rd near Madinat Jumeirah. She had serious stigmatism in both eyes so had to go to this place cos they have a newer lasik which maps each person eye individually and makes the appropriate changes rather than the one setting fits all as the other Lasik works. This guy flies in once a month from the States and trained at John Hopkins so he certainly knows his stuff and my wife's outcome has been 20/20 vision with no side effects other than some itchiness and dry eyes for about a week. It cost 2 years ago about 8,000 dhs per eye so more expensive than the standard LASIK but I think worth it.
Cheers.
