Olbie, you are not not long in the aviation business I would say.
How can being early be bad for anybody?
Think about it, if an aircraft is scheduled to be early on every sector it means more on ground time and so no profit. Time on the ground doing nothing is too expensive for the company, An aircraft must work to pay for itself and if you speak to any charter operator they will tell you 18 hours a day is possible. As for pax not caring if they arrive on time, well thats just plain stupid! On time arrival is the biggest concern for any pax especially business travellers who have deadlines. On time departures don't matter if you arrive on time for these people. Secret to success is a tight schedule you can keep to and GF has rarely been able to achieve that.

If you want lessons on how NOT to be ontime, talk to Geert at EY. He's doing a great job. That is when he's not in the cockpit telling the pilots to put their ties on before departure. Good job Geert, just take your seat in the back so you can start on your 6 or 8 doubles to have a good buzz on by the time you get to destination!!

I have been flying for 13 years
Says it all really. You seriously think that makes you experienced? The increased block times are to account for winter winds which will have an effect soon. Doh!!

More likely due to the extra congestion in and around DXB with EK, EY and QR all attempting to become the worlds largest airlines

As a business traveller the only thing that concerns me is arriving at or before the time stated. WE have to plan our movements and meetings around when we expect to arrive. Getting into a destination after the scheduled time can seriously f@#K up my plans. I do not particulalry care about whether we depart on time or not as long as we get there on time.

Having said that I am very p!ssed off at the moment. I am sitting in the lounge in Kuwait having just been told that my 11.35 flight to Bahrain GF212 has been cancelled and I will have to wait till 14.40 to get on GF214.
Apparently there was no operating crew, so will some of you get of your backside and instead of posting on Pprune get flying those aircraft

On On

Thumbs up

If I may say so, it is a fairly old and common industry-practice to "pad" scheduled travel times. Gives for some wiggle-room to the airline, good for passengers who are planning their trips for things like connections, and hardly anybody complains when the PA goes "oh gosh jeez folks, we are going to arrive about 20 minutes early today and sincerely apoligize for any inconvenience." However, I have noticed (and this is only my unscientific observation) that we are departing more frequently on-time, so yes, things are improving and that is the objective of the exercise.
