The guys lost there O2 so decided to divert. But the strange thing is that they diverted to some really crappy airport when Phucket or Kuala were close by & more suitable. Any idea who the crew were?

Better some crappy airport in the middle of nowhere than the Indian Ocean 'cos your gasping for breath!

Gasping for breath?
I don't think so - the passenger oxygen system was fully serviceable and emergency oxygen bottles had been requisitioned into the cockpit, along with a cabin crew to help (Quick donning masks are for flights above 25,000 feet, and so this would be quite acceptable at low altitudes).
Then the justification of putting it down at 250 odd nautical miles from your destination......

Propellor, exactly my thoughts cos the loss of o2 occurred before reaching the eastern edge of the bay of bengal. So surely it would have been better for the capt to decide to land there, but if it was who I told it was then I am surprised he did not go to port blair

What would you do?

Regardless of the nationality of the crew we all want to learn from this incident.
They landed in a remote airfield. Is this airfield approved in OMC? If no we are allowed to land only in case of emergency! Do you guys think this was an emergency ??
I also hope they checked the Jeppesen to see if there is any oxygen available to this airfield.

Chuck Y, Port Blair would not have come into any consideration, as it was a non-ETOPS flight, routed well north over the Bay. Having said that, Port Blair would have been a holiday for longer than a day, for the crew (and a longer nightmare for others).
Eastern edge of the Bay - no one is sure, but rumour has it that the Oxygen may have depleted a long long time before it was realized.

El Rey Leon: the field features in the Jepp manual, and would thus be on the 'approved' list. It is not necessary to check if the place has the capability for refilling oxygen.

Re. the nationality of the skipper - it is quite irrelevant: they are generally a good lot, despite two recent events, wherein one did not land soon enough (EY) and the other did it too soon (GF).
