cantilever you are quite arrogant regarding language speaking may be this people in OCC they don t speak all the time fluent english but at least they try.
be sure that they speak other languages , how many languages are you able to speak?
if you are able to perform just a single language do it properly with an accent that everybody can understand .
remember for CRM and safety the expert should be able to reduce his pace to help the novice for a good team work not the opposite

The novice should also have a basic acceptable standard of English which others can understand....that is not the case in EY.
Its an airline not an English language training school.
Trying is not good enough, we are dealing with a flight safety issue and possible total CRM breakdown....
Lets hope the recruitment/HR guys sort it out.

you are right but the last safety issues or incidents we had weren t link with language problems but with maintenance, short training , level of fatigue,
crazy roster.
this is why i think the language problem is secondary for the moment ,
the days all this problems mentionned above will be solved
, we could polish our level of english

Sorry but I disagree, the last 330 incident was due to a lack of understanding of ETOPs/twin Engine operations and poor decision making.
None of these problems should be put on the back burner or secondary as you say, we need to start getting it sorted now before it bites us big time.
These guys should have an acceptable level of English before they are hired, the written test is obviously not working....toughen up the oral/interview...

i don t see language issue for the A330 incident , decision making isn t a language mecanism and understanding of ETOPS , do you remember the EY ETOPS ground course?i flew with some new joiners fluent in english but after the ground phase they thought ETOPS ops was just for Atlantic flights
anyway i am agree with you for assess the english level but our main problem isn t this one for the moment.
just my 2 cts
