Dubai Aviation Hangouts

I'm a University Intern from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University doing an internship with a proposed Start up Airline and Aviation Management Consulting company in Dubai for 4 months. If anyone could give me leads on where I maybe able to run into folks in the aviation field that would be nice. Im doing an assessment and research study on aviation in the Gulf for my University and would like to have an opportunity to listen to peoples perceptions and opions in person.

On their evening's off most of the EK pilots can be found at either The York Hotel, The Rattlesnake Club or at one of Dubai's most valued cultural spots, The Cyclone.

At any of these places you can practice intermingling with other cultures whilst learning new languages, important in any multi-cultural society. The art of 'haggling' or negotiating is often practiced as well as, in some cases, developing longer term relationships. All these skills are necessary in today's flight deck environment.

Dude, you are giving your self away....Cyclon closed months ago. You will find pilots just about everywhere. 1900 today...looking for 500 next year.

Just drive up to DSO and sit by the pool for 10 min! Go to Habtoor Grand Hotels beach club or the Sheraton beach club. The pilot is the tired looking guy trying to doze off under a palm tree with 3 scremning kids, and a gorgeous wife with new boobs! Check for the Breitling Aviator watch. I think we are issued with one when we start....where is mine????

Thanks EKpilot... I agree with your statement on the importance of intermingling, especially in the aviation field. As a pilot in training myself and an aviation business major, I do see this as a way of learning from the experiences of others and building a vast network. As for the other posts, i'll be sure to try to check out he places posted. I gladly appreciate your responses.

Was as Rattlesnake the other nite, my skills in the field of negotiating are getting better and better. Language skills are also on the way up, just don't make hand signaks to identify a price!

it is rather inanely humorous isn't it? A bit ... well... sort of weird... How come you don't want to know where the cabin crew girls are Patrick...?

I can hardly wait to meet some well coifed ingratiating self important aviation undergraduate impressario whilst downing a couple at Long's... I am sure we'll have a splendid conversation about whatever he finds interesting...

Good luck young man...

Haha... of course an American university student like me wouldn't mind running into some cabin crew!

Cyclone college closed

Due to a lack of take up for the new educational year, Cyclone college was forced to close, many under grads decamped to the Rattlesnake, to continue their studies, but most relocted off campus.

If the government increase the grant aid facility we are hoping for a remote campus in RAK soon, as ER will be based up here.

At the moment the uni shuttle buses continue to utilise route 311.

Dear Aviation Student

I strongly recommend the bar at the Intercontinental. I can't remember the name (perhaps another reader can confirm). I found it very useful for understanding other cultures, hearing about travelling experiences, the ins and outs of Dubai and so on.

Cyclone closed??

When did that happen? I've got a couple of mates over soon and told them they'd have the time of their lives!

Cyclone closed??
It was a good hangout place for "a once in a while visit". Aviation Club is a good place to go to. Almost every hotel has a bar with a live band. Ask your future colleagues during your first days here. I'm sure they'll help you out.
