I bought 3 years ago in the UAE and have done very well. I did the same again 2 years later and then again a year ago. No regrets at all. More than made up for the declining Dirham!

Each time there was the doom and gloom brigade with all the arguments seen on this thread. Yes there were hiccups but with a little foot stamping they were fixed or compensated. The legal system may be flawed but business pressures and the authorities seem to keep a check on most banditry.

In one place the woodwork was shocking. I rejected it and they simply redid it without a murmur and got it right. A little inconvenient but they learn.

Check out the plans for Dubai, Abu Dhabi and RAK. Look at the expansion projections. I think there is still fat left in the market. We shall see.

Having been here a while I generally find the nay-sayers are those who feel they have missed the property market and have to justify their reasons for not entering it now or in the first place.

My visit for next week may get pushed back as some of the principles are out of town. Anyways I'll let everyone know how it goes.

I'll bet you a beach front condo in the Caymans (for the same price as a 37th floor apt. in the marina) that the above statement is not always applicable.

Do a proper search for international real estate and compare to what you get for the same price in the UAE. Pay your rent and get something special, somewhere special.

But then to each his own.

Got this from another website...

i am emailing from Al Hamra Hotel having spent the last 5 days in meetings and viewing the apartments with the developers. My sales advisor ,who has been spot on with everything so far, took me over to the marina area where,we both agreed ,that blocks A,B and C would not be fully complete until the latter part of the year. The new construction schedule i got from the Al Hamra offices even says this too.The marina pool is to be started in the next 2 weeks and will take a minimum of 2 months to complete. There have been some changes to the area round the marina. They have the go ahead to put a few shops on the lagoon side as they thought it would be a track to get to the Mall which i have to say is going to be stunning! Much bigger than i expected and the plans look brilliant.Have taken loads of photos that i will upload when i get back and still loads to tell but am leaving here with a real buzz and am really impressed with the whole project. For those of you with a few doubts,i think its going to be fantastic and im definitely glad i invested!!! Will give you a more detailed report on it all and the different blocks when i get back at the weekend.

Al Hamra progress

I have been advised that there will be NO electrical connections in RAK, (and I assume the development, and mall complex) until NOVEMBER.
This being due to the sudden surprise of summer, and the ac units requiring electricity.

There is a JV company developing wind farms in RAK. Not yet open to public discussion, makes a change from cell towers.

I am also looking at a town house and the previous remark about adding the roof terrance, is I fear not practical.

Yes, lets keep this thread up and running, to enable quality property developments (in RAK), with building standards that we all expect as normal.

Al Hamra, RAK

Can you let me have the contact details of the developer of Al Hamra ? Searching just brings up agents and holiday sites.
Cheers

Visit Report

The wife and I flew out last week to check out Dubai. We didn't make it to RAK as we decided against that location. Mostly due to all the activities for our kids are in Dubai and we liked the Mirdif area. We had a great time in Dubai and hope to be moving soon. Until the job works out, its back to United and the evil 320.

RAK island sold for 'fantasy' development

The title says it all:
A natural island in Ras Al Khaimah has been sold to two UAE nationals who plan to develop a Dh8 billion tourist site, according to Emirates Today.
Ahmed bin Ali Al Abdulla and Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Shaibani paid Dh600 million for the 220,000 square metre Al Khayal or Fantasy island, situated in the Al Hamraa area of Ras Al Khaimah. UK and Kuwaiti investors are said to be involved in the project.
The pair, executive directors of New Dubai Real Estate Development Company and Amlak Al Medina Real Estate Company respectively, said the island would become a centre for tourism with final designs to be announced soon.
Al Abdullah told Emirates Today a local bank would manage project investments, and that the project was expected to be sold in full before completion, scheduled to be within the next four years.
