Emirates rent allowance - question please

Hi,

Can anyone please advise if Emirates will pay the agreed housing allowance towards a boat purchase.

How soon after the selection does one get offered a course ?

Thanks

Thumbs down

Yes you can buy a boat with it, you will also have to live in the boat.
You tell them how much notice you need and you will get a course soon after.

You don't really have to live on the boat... that is if you hav an appartment.
EK has no business with where you invest the money in, but of course, you have to live somewhere since you won't be entitled to EK accommodation anymore, and that is for the rest of your career with EK.

Personally I can't see one living on a boat in DXB on a permanent basis because of the heat. Also, you need a place to wash your clothes, what about telephone and internet etc...

Having said that, a few guys do live on a boat in DXB, but as far as I know, they commute most of the time and live on the boat when they are in DXB.

You have to rent or buy somewhere first to show EK a contract before they will pay housing allowance. After that you can spend the allowance as you please. The problem will be getting marina space in Dubai, nothing available at the moment, especially for sail boats. A few new marinas are under construction but you wont get a mast through the bridge at Dubai Marina city so you have to go power boat. Marina fees like rents have shot up over the last two years, JBH up 300% last year. A good A/C system is a must.
