Desparation sets in - now EK comes to you!

Not so long ago it was the individual's responsibility to pay the airfare to come over to Dubai for the interview procedure. Interesting to see that now EK are travelling to the Heathrow Marriott April 17/18th to conduct "information briefings" for prospective flight deck joiners.... to be followed by simulator evaluations in London the week after.
Oh, how times are a-changing......

Absolutely! however, if you get through that bit you will still have to pay to get to DXB for the final round of the interview, tests etc yada yada.

As just confirmed once agin - by HR:
There are NO plans for ANY other bases than DXB for EK in the nearest future - probably because that might initiate an exodus from pilots from scruffy DXB in a matter of weeks!
So, just forget 'bout it - it WON'T happen !!

What a laugh, they are now asking bus skippers to go to the boeing as clearly they cant get the DECs in to man them, the spokes are coming off the wheels!

CW,

They tried to get this happening (Airbus Capts. to the 777) about 4 months ago, but it was rejected at the eleventh hour by AAR. His argument - We won't need to do it because we will have a fantastic new promotion system (the abortionate FCI on the subject refers) and plenty of DEC applicants. Well, I haven't seen too many DEC's and precious few (if any) promotions under the terms of this FCI.

Who is kidding who here ??

What a disaster:

- The A380 planning people are tearing their hair out wondering how the hell these aircraft are going to get airborne with NO crew pipeline in place.

- The 777 is rapidly running behind in LHS people. Watch the aircraft parked later this year.

- The current Airbus guys are fatigued and totally overworked. What the hell is going on, when allegedly, the A380 crews will come from this fleet for the first year or so.

- If anyone thinks the resignation rate last year was high, look at the numbers so far this year.

Simply unsustainable.

Makes you wonder where they will put the bonus threshold for next year... below this year's?

Also, people seem to leave even without waiting for the bonus and possible package improvement. I'm wondering what the effect of a low payout and/or meager payrise will have on folks still hesitating to leave.

Summers are getting hotter every year...

Middle East bubble about to burst????

Reading these things about EK, a company that has always been considered as the summum of aviation in the sandpit, I can not stop help to think " when is this all going to end?"

EK clearly is desperate on finding their pilots, EY just stopped recruiting because it is hopeless anyhow, GF is struggling harder then ever before and now is thinking about DEC ( a bit too late because none are available) and QR is scraping the bottom of the pit engaging about anyone who has ever sat in an airplane....

When we look outside the sandpit we see that most of the "big guns" are screaming as well....CX is constantly doing interviews, The red lady is looking for 160 drivers this year, BA is hiring etc etc etc...

As long as we keep on heaving these megalonamiacs managing airlines in the middle east, without any respect whatsoever for their tech crews, I am convinced that the exodus will start here first! And then what?

I know for a fact that both Airbus and Boeing are very prudent when it comes to orders from the ME because they know that these airlines simply will not be able to find the sheer numbers of drivers for these machines!

Well done boys! Good planning once more!

I guess the saying still stands:

" What goes around, comes around "

Sit back, relax and enjoy the laugh!

If EK are providing tickets for the interviews in Dubai, can someone tell me how I can claim a refund on the ticket that I had to buy to get here?

Unless the passport was from a country who's name we dare not mention, then i can assure you that you don't know anyone who didn't get a job because they didn't have the correct passport.

You may know a lot of people who didn't get a job because they couldn't pass the selection process though.

More upgrades from within and modify the requirements at the entry level. I'm sure you'd have a long line of younger F/O's with less jet time wanting to fly the 380, and be happy to sit there for 5 years. The requirements must be changed to cope with the expansion. Not to mention the pay package to keep them here.

Having the correct passport has never been an issue in emirates, they have in the past had quality applicants from areas of the world where aviation has a good safety record now they are having to employ people from airlines with the dubious records.
You get what you pay for in life lets just hope there is not a smoking hole before they realise that.

Sataire hits the issue here Perfectlyon the head, sort out the abysmal upgrade policy. In otherwords transition upgrades, and no farting around 6 months RHS after a transition course, then a command course. Utter bo**ocks, and only airline i have ever heard of doing this. Also lower the requirements for entry level F/Os.

Its hardly rocket science and it will make a lot of F/O's a lot happier.

Hey Zoo Tou, what's worse, your tragic mates being knocked back at the interview because they come from a place where people are battling to parallel-park a car with out major panel damage OR actually hiring the cripples, and letting them loose in an expensive machine with OUR loved ones on board to fly them all into a mountain-side...??

I don't think they're quite desperate enough, yet, to go hire your ham-fisted brethren.....

There's enough on the roads here, let alone the runways.

It's not about the passport, it's about the lack of flying skill and thought-processes of the dunderklumpens.

C'mon down! Get your free vacation!!

From what I recall, EK used to provide transport to Dubai for the interviews etc. a while back (T+C's were much better than today for sure) but many just came for an "EK" paid vacation and did not accept the offer if it came. (This according to sources within recruitment years ago). Perhaps we will see a repeat of history. Obviously the laws of supply and demand are alive and well and the tables have turned. Dubai really is a wonderful place ...for a "short time". I'll leave it to you to determine what length of time cronologically a "short time" translates to!

Just don't forget about those "free" Time Share sales pitches. Enjoy the free tour of "Disneyland" and it's suroundings but don't be tempted to bite into the package. It could cost you for years!
