But...what was the success rate from the sim day. The 2 recently that I know of were 5 out of 16 going on to the last 2 days with no DECs and 6 out of 16. For every guy you get at the interview, historically you only get about 1/3 of a guy or less in the company.

dabrat, they've lowered their standards so much that I hear some of the new guys get 2 weeks of English lessons before starting the actual course... At least those are the whispers in Training College.

Standard of new hires is (compared to historical standard of guys in EK) woeful. Still some good blokes getting in although 1st world candidates pretty much dried up. Makes one wonder about the standard of some airlines out there and carefully consider what airlines to use on one's holidays.

I reckon fly 747's initial post was an honest question, but after all you(understandably) defensive blokes climbed all over him, he lowered himself to your level...why would anybody want to be subject to taxes (would one not be if based in the UK?) on these kind of salaries anyway, kind of defeats the whole purpose of working for these companies don't you think?

Ironbutt, I reckon you are right. But I liken these forums to a sort of 'crew room' and I would never enter your crew room and say 'Hi Guys! Anyone know how I can leapfrog all your capable FOs and get a direct command? Whilst I'm here, anyone know if I can jump to the front of teh seniority list and get a basing? And how about getting me onto the new fancy equipment too!!'
To some it might come across as being funny, to others, arrogant. With what is happening here in EK at the moment, I just took it as plain inappropriate at this time.

Maybe, just posssibly, this poster was unaware he would be considered a "leap-frogger" an unemotional response would surely have put things in a better light, don't you think?

Mr Gammon Flaps,
There are many F/O's who are qualified (over 3 years and meet the requirements) but not upgrading. I do not have an exact number, but I would guess it is at least 75. I know of at least 10 Airbus F/O's who are DEC qualified and are not allowed to upgrade.
The reasons are many, but the main ones are:
We are not allowed to do a transition upgrade. A F/O on the Bus can only upgrade on the bus. We do have a half assed transition upgrade policy but you must go to the boeing as a F/O, complete training and fly the line for 6 months. Then you do your command assessment and if sucessful you go to upgrade training. The entire process will take a year and the first transition course is May 29th. We are better off staying on the bus.
Those lucky enough to be hired on the boeing are upgrading as soon as they meet the qualifications. If you are DEC qualified you upgrade in less then a year. If Accelerated qualified than it is 18 months, and if you do not meet those requirements than you will complete upgrade training at the 3 year point.
You can see why the bus F/O's are at the end of their ropes. Airbus upgrades are currently running about 3.5 years with the company, even if you are DEC/Accelerated qualified, and many of the Boeing F/O's are not waiting 18 months. To be fair, there was a time when just the opposite was happening. All of the growth was on the bus and the Boeing guys had to sit. The problem would be solved it we would just allow transition upgrades: When it is your turn go the left seat on the aircraft that is available at the time. But for Emirates that is too simple of a solution.

Never quite understood why these airlines require one to have previous time on type, or 6 months in the right seat prior to upgrading on type...sure complicates things...particularly in the case of EK where one can become DEC with no time on type...

Promoting as and when a pilot has the experience and his number comes up, regardless of type would be the sensible option. At least to have the choice of either to stay on the same type or move to another and get a command.
However, you mentioned accelerated commands. What are the requirements for someone to be employed on that basis?

If you are genuinely interested in joining EK (gulp!), i'd suggest to wait until end of April. Once the profit share, the new salaries (increase), the new housing allowance are out, only then the picture is complete.
From inside: If it's not 6 weeks bonus, at least 12% salay increase (+3% annual increase) and at least 20% more on housing allowance, then stay where you are.

Ironbutt,
That was the original reply to Fly747s initial post. As far as I can see, this is an unemotional response. 747 then comes back and starts inciting the emotional responses (mine included) and in my opinion he got the rebuttals that he deserved coming out with cr@p like:
He gives his location as the York International. This is a 3 star hotel in Bur Dubai and which most of us in Dubai know to be nothing but a huge whorehouse, a haven for a veritable smorgasbord of prostitutes from all over the world. This all says something about the character of the man and I for one would rather not share cockpit space with him. I trust the recruitment team to do their job well.
Fly747 - sorry to be blunt but EK do not have any plans for basing anywhere apart from DXB either now or in near future from what I know. Let's say hypothetically that EK decide to have a base at LHR, if you do join EK you will be way down the seniority list of guys wanting to be based there, and trust me there are a lot of guys who would like it. So if a LHR base is all that you are interested in - and not EK as a whole, then don't even bother going any further down the track.
Sorry MR8 but it was a DEC LHR 380 I was looking for!

I hear they cannot change policy due loss of face, so Emirates will be shut down and restarted ,with a new paint scheme of course.
Everybody will have to re-apply for a new job on lower pay or face deportation not to mention bases for the new guys as the seniority of all the pilots will start on the same day.
On the other hand they may buy Delta airlines and liquidate it just to put some pilots on the street, It may cost more but at least they wont have to pay those EK Pilots extra cash.
Youre all in a dream world the big cash is in Asia never will be in ME and even if you get 20% or so inflation will follow life will always be the same
The only way to make a good living here is to bring a Winnebago and live in it at the CBC and take the allowance.
Bring me another beer.....................

One wonders, how would all these guys know this?

411A....it is almost impossible to go out for an evening in the UAE without coming into contact indirect or otherwise with the "nocturnal entertainment professionals" in AUH, even a quiet evening with your life partner to Trader Vic's, etc...etc.., one would have such an encounter, for an "after pissup" trip to McDonalds at zero-dark thirty to grease up the tummy, one could have a "McHooker, hold the cheese" if one wanted to go with your favorite burger...it is so proliferous it is ridiculous...any US city vice squad would have a field day there.....
