Is EK colour blind?
Favorite colour?
EK is travelling the whole length to recruit in the US and Australia.
There are so many of us black Africans who applied for DEC.For several months ,even a year in my case,we have not been given any clue.
We are wondering what's wrong ?
Can anybody tell me if they hire black African DEC's?

In fairness to EK, I think we have a genuine multi cultural group of pilots that encompasses every conceivable skin colour!
In 10 years here, I have NEVER seen any discrimination of the type to which you may be alluding. While there may be issues now of the technical standards of some applicants, race or ethnic background has never been a consideration here.

It's not about skin colour or continental origin. It's about whether or not the guy can fly without hitting mountains. At least it used to be...
If you can see a correlation between the two, why don't you enlighten (sorry!) us?

It's all a bit rich.
A guy wants to be a DEC, thus vaulting himself over hundreds of screwed over F/O's, and he's got the balls to write that he's being treated unfairly.
Not impressed.

No EK is not color blind. But people who pull the race card, when they have been turned down wouldnt fit in here.
I think I only got a 4 on my last PPC because I am PINK...!

Thank you
A few gentlemen gave me genuine answers, and a few guys vented their frustration that should belong in other threads.
Unfortunately no one answered my Question: Does any body know a black African DEC at EK?
I know black African DEC's in other airlines; I am one of them .
I work for a first class airline where people are accepted for their qualification regardless of their skin colour or origin .I joined them as a DEC and I am happy.
I am not in any way implying that EK have a racist policy.
All I am saying is ,they did not invite black Africans who have the right amount of flight time and qualification required by EK for an interview.
My fear is if there is a bias relating to skin colour or origin.
For my satisfaction , I asked if any one knew a black African DEC.
That is something I have to get an answer yet
Thank you for discussing this issue, for it is through such discussions that we can remove prejudice on both sides.

Sorry banjul, but can't help you with black african DECs but we do have a number of very competent black african pilots who came here as FOs. One is a capt and loves flying, music, friends and reading. The other is about to do his upgrade and he too likes flying, music, friends and reading (especially company documents!!). Also believe that there are a few others but do not know them as there are 1500+ pilots now.

As far as I know, emirates do not ask for a photograph when you apply and neither do you have to specify whether you're black, white or blue. So Banjul, my dear, Emirates DON"T KNOW WHAT COLOUR YOU ARE and your post is totally irrelevant.
As has been mentioned, we have a number of black pilots flying for us - I personally know at least 4, and they're all great guys.
EK, with all its (many) faults, is anything but racist when it comes to pilot selection. The mix of 60+ nationalities, religions and races are testament to that. If you're trying to make an issue with your skin colour, then you have no place in EK anyway.

Picu,
Err, maybe my memory has failed me but I do believe I had to submit an electronically scanned photograph with the application. It's been a while so I could be mistaken, but I think that's what I was requested to do, and did. Having said that, I don't in any way, think that EK's hiring policies are racist.

Hi Yardman. I applied about 8 years ago but I don't remember sending pictures at the application phase. We didn't use e-mail in those days either - just faxes and postal mail. You could be right though - my memory is not what it used to be.
Still think that Banjul's post is ridiculous though.

Agreed!
Banjul, you are an arse! We have a Jamaican DEC, whom I have flown with many times, and he is a top bloke and a very good friend, and believe me, he is VERY black. However he doesn't seem to have the same hang-ups about the colour of his skin like you do!
Whats your problem? You can't keep playing the 'race card' every time you don't get your own way and behave like a spoiled brat!!!
You probably haven't been invited for interview becaused you fu)kt up your application, or came accross as a prat! I'm Glad to see the recruitment team doing an efficient job!
Grow up you numpty!
Reminds me of Ali G: "Is it cos I is Black?"
Rant over!

If you need proof, over the last year or so EK has hired 11 Ethiopian pilots. It makes no diff if they are FO's or DEC's. pilots are pilots when it comes to recruits, we will hire them regardelss of nationality or colour.
In fact the only difference is that the standards applied to F/O's doing upgrade is far more stringent than that applied to new join DEC's.
So if you are inept, better apply as a DEC

Ciao Giovane. Not really a fair question by Banjul - all the following are quotes from him in his post:
-"they did not invite black africans"... Not true, so his assumption is wrong
-"I am not implying that EK have a racist policy" but then says "i fear there is a bias relating to skin colour"
-through discussion we can remove prejudice on both sides"
Now who is implying that EK are racist?
The aggression in some of the posts is probably because of a number of similar posts through the years implying the same thing. Many people apply to join EK (according to our boss, bless him, about 25 a day!) and many get turned down but nobody else uses skin colour as a reason. As I mentioned before, EK is nowhere near perfect but to their credit racism in pilot selection I have yet to see. Banjul's implications are immature.
