another day in paradise ...
DXB continues to move ahead, in it's goal to become a "world class" city. The insane traffic situation, labour and low paid worker abuse problems and now the increase in reported (as opposed to what you never hear about) crime, make it an even more attractive place to bring you family!

POLICE AND THE COURTS
- Four suspects held after dismembered body is recovered
- 23 year old British Flight Attendant gang-raped by 6 locals (this should really help cabin crew recruitment!)
- Woman battles for life after near fatal jump while being chased
and on the lighter side ... "Couple jailed for having sex in car on Skeikh Zayed Road" !!
Also in the paper version, but not on the web version, "7 UAE locals are "under probe" for stabbing a Moroccan to death at a club in Deira Monday night, because they didn't like the way he was looking at them!
Finally there is the picture of the lorry sitting on top of the road median on the approach to Maktoum Bridge on page 3, which is considered "funny" and not a concern at all !!
They wanted a big booming city and now they get the problems that come with it ... be careful what you wish for, you just might get it !

I agree, DXB is not immune, but in most Western cities, gang-rapists and murderers won't get off so lightly, as tends to happen here, if "locals" are involved. The local youths are a real menace, and have little fear of authority, probably because the police are a joke. Yes, this may be common everywhere else in the world as well, but we don't live there, and my family used to feel much safer in DXB than now! Just because it happens elsewhere, doesn't make it acceptable! Many people are complacent here, feeling they live in some kind of safe tropical paradise, but that just ain't the case anymore ... which is a shame.
