Re: emirates aviation college

Wouldn't waste my money on it. The CPL you get won't be transferable to any other regulatory bodies equivalent e.g. JAA/CAA CPL etc, so you will still have to go through the whole rigmarole in the UK anyway.

The UAE licences are generally regarded as useless if you want to gain any employment thereafter, most can be found in your corn flakes packet when you open them.

Save your cash and invest it somewhere else. It will be worth it in the long run.

Good luck.

Well, his English is on a level with Swish266 who is posting on a thread not far from here.
Hasn't held him back as he is debating whether to apply to EK as a DEC.

Re: emirates aviation college

mx4_2001,

Try contacting the Fujairah Aviation Centre. Have heard they are starting a new re-branding and will commence JAA CPL / ATPL courses this summer with european instructors and brand new Diamond DA40 & DA42 aircraft.

Don't have any idea about the price tag on courses but they are sure to be much cheaper than Europe. Contact the Director of Flight Training Nick O'Brien. He is currently ferrying the first of their aircraft back from europe so give it a week or so!

Believe that most of the UAE will be changing to JAA conformity soon.

Good Luck

Re: emirates aviation college

Radar 35,

Are you thinking of doing your training in the UAE? (Because it isn't cheap). Actually not entirely true, it remains 'cheaper' than the UK and Ireland (can't really talk about the rest of Europe because I don't know), but it is still way more expensive than the States or South Africa or even Australia. I know its a pain going through all the TSA clearance etc for the States for example but in the long run its much better on the pocket and you can still do your JAA licences (if that is your intention) at certain flying schools.

Re: emirates aviation college

Captain Bug Smasher,

The only thing for people wishing to obtain JAA Licences will not be able to complete all if any of thses courses in the US, SA or Australia, so from that perspective a good cheaper than europe CPL/ATPL college in the ME is a perfect prospect!

Re: emirates aviation college

Another way of doing it is getting the licenses in the US (you can get them fairly cheap and fast - especially if you do some homework beforehand by studying the testpreps from Gleim or ASA (or simple learn the FAR/AIM)), then go back home and take all the theory courses for the JAA and do the testflight.
In Austria I paid about 5500 Pounds for just the theory-courses CPL/IFR/(frozen) ATPL.
You'll have the advantage of owning the FAA as well as JAA-licenses.

mx4_2001,

Re: emirates aviation college

For sure its bad and for sure everybody tries o rip you off. in the US it took me 3 months to get a cpl/ifr/me rating, there is no way anything happens that fast in the uae.
just get a license from a real country, one day during an interview somebody probably asks you where you did your training.

Re: emirates aviation college

Zomp: last year - but that's just for the theory lessons... no flying, no exam fees, add another 300 Pounds for the books and material. All in all I paid: 20000 Dollar for collecting the hours in the US (170 single +10 Multi) (including housing, but you could get it for half the price, U are always more clever afterwards) and about 22000 Euro here in Austria - for 30 hours procedure trainer, around 10 hours IFR (C172), 11 hours multi (in a Seneca), all the theory lessons, exams fees, airport fees, ... for CPL/IFR/frozen ATPL.
I know Europe's more expensive - but it got me job in the end

Re: emirates aviation college

mx4_2001

I agree with alot of the posts about Dubai but the new outfit at Fujairah is just starting and will have all european instructors and brand new Aircraft too, and will be run along the lines of oxford, but much more relaxed.

The following e-mail: [email protected]

I wouldn't say the ME is a waste of money, the US in many places is as you end up having to spend money back in you respective JAA state!

Try them, don't ask don't get is my philosophy

Re: emirates aviation college

Hi Zomp, little bird told you right - only it's called Austrian Arrows (operated by Tyrolean)
I'm on a great little airplane - Dash 8-300 Great plane to hand-fly - handles just like a big Cessna!

I paid 3500 Dollars for my PPL including 75 hours... sadly that's a long time ago as well...
