Does anybody enjoy working at Qatar Airways?

All that I've heard are extremly negetive comments. Is there anything good about the job, from an SO perspective?

Yes, there are some people who do enjoy working at QR.

Mr. Akbar Al Baker just ADORES it, and cannot get enough of it, regularly putting in 22hour days!

Imagine for a moment, the simple task of taking a piss in-flight...

1) Feel the urge.
2) Check "LAV OCCUPIED" light. Light's out = phew...!
3) Comply with security procedures.
4) ...here is the kicker... REMEMBER TO WEAR YOUR DAMN HAT...
Y O U R ... H A T to the LAV, or some "I wanna be someone!" FELLOW CREW-MEMBER (working / traveling as a pax) REPORTS you while you take a wee-wee without your damn hat (!!), and...
5) PRESTO! You're out on your a$$, looking for WORK!

...still wanna join them? If so, use the handy-dandy "SEARCH" feature here, and read all the doom and gloom. Good luck. You're going to seriously need it.

As far as Qatar being a 3rd world country, Qatar is not a part of the UAE, where is your Geography teacher?

im sorry, but i lived 2 years in qatar and been to uae more than 20 times and had a friend working for emirates there, and its not as civilised there as u may think!!!

yes there are buildings and more westeners and nice streets and that bla bla bla but uae is an arab country and equally the same as qatar...they mistreat people just as mauch and have stupid laws just as much as qatar and also there are unhappy crew in ek just as in qatar although in much larger scale in qr...but this is due to aab! not because of the country...

i loved it, it was quite and peaceful and the qataris arent that bad, just as in uae they smoke whee they want and do what they want...so dont make uae sound like heaven...yes its more developed but qatar has more respect for arab heritage and culture therefore reflected in the new infrastructures unlike uae that likes to override all that with western style buildings and all else...

development is good but culture and heritage is much more valuable and irreplaceable....

uae is good just as much as qatar is with just a little more development but when it comes to laws they dont care about outsiders...arabic is more valuable than english in anything and thats what they will value, just as well as a muslim's word aganst a kafirs word!

all comments in all good faith!

Whoops, sorry about that. What was I thinking. I thought we were talking about Abu Dabbhi ( spelling) But seriously, all of the main countries in the middle east who make alot of revenue of oil are classified as 4th world countries. This is because they were previously a 3rd world province but now because of all the oil they didn't know what to do and so all these westeners came in.

Another reason you can say they are not developing as much as western countries is because of the Islamic religion. I lived in KSA ( Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ) for 6 years and the whole country is corrupt because of Islam. But 2 months back I went there to visit my dad who is a westener and all I can say is that '' the times they are a changing '' There starting to show women in newspapers, couples showing more affection for each other in public, manakins in shops been put up and on a very very rare occasion I saw a woman behind the wheel. I talked to a few saudis in my dads company who are major followers of the royal family and they told me one of the family members is in line to the thrown and he wants to legalise alchol and women driving.

These may be little improvents for us...but major ones for them. As a result of this I think many more westeners will come to the middle east.

nd the whole country is corrupt because of Islam

What a crap of sh.. you are talking about! First learn as a "Westerner" to spell proper English. Second, I agree with you that these guys are a backward group of goatherders with no respect to women, their foreign work force or any idea how a democratic government should work. However this has nothing to do with the religion of Islam!

I don't think any of this is correct. If you know anything about the KSA you will know that someone in the government tried to get a law passed for women to drive cars and he was theatened with his life a few months ago. It was in the papers. I don't think you know what you are talking about like FlyinCroc said.

Hmmm, veering dangerously off topic here. Comments about Islam and Goat-herders irrelevant and will only serve to upset some people, chaps.

Back on topic - does ANYONE enjoy working at QR? Answers on a postcard please..............

I'll second that request - some pretty naive and/or intolerant posts being made on this thread - keep it nice please.

I would suspect that a few of AAB's mafia "enjoy" QR at the moment, but I believe that they too will be booted as and when it is convenient for him.

A lot of people, myself included, USED TO enjoy QR, but the thing is, and it has been discussed many times before, many still there that wish to leave can't or are scared to do so! He does have the knack of taking resignations with a "you will be out the country in 24 hours!" attitude!! This is why many people leave QR with debts still pending.

Of all my friends still there, all are fed up and look forward to layovers so that they get a bit of a break. The unfortunate thing is, when they get back to DOH, they never know if someone somewhere has reported them for something or nothing!

Noone, except him himself, is infallible in that company!

Cheers

Well, as usual, there will be different opinions on that one. Your question is if there is one enjoying the work at QR? First of all very undefined question? Don’t get me wrong. There are many aspects of working, like to enjoy the flying, crew, routes, roster, airplane, layover, pay scale and so on. I think some how you should narrow your question to a concrete matter.
However I will try to answer your question as best as I can. I do enjoy flying a great airplane, working with professional people, visiting interesting and exiting places on layovers, getting to know great interesting people, widening my horizon and finally having good income.
I don’t enjoy working with idiots, unprofessional dilettantes, and people with psychological deficiencies, so far it people concerns.
Not necessarily do I like night flights or rosters with almost 90-95 BH or getting to an airplane and realize that there is technical problem and people didn’t write it down and didn’t tell us anything, so we have to star it all over again. Despite all the negative comments, most of the people I am working with are good and processional people, but there are always exceptions like everywhere else. It will come to an individual level between you and your colleges as a result you will get what you give. It’s your ability to make your live interesting and exiting and you will be the one, who will decide whether your stay with QR will be worth it or not.
Hope I could give you an idea.
Cheers.
